Re: OpenGL Vizserver???

I know this is an old post, but I am curious if vizserver is still in use? Did any other competing products replace it?

Re: 9x 1.5TB + RAID5 + LVM + XFS?

Just so you don't get surprised by this later - you can't grow a RAID5 set by adding a disk to it without rebuilding it from scratch, unless you want your original RAID5 with an unprotected disk tacked on the end of it. Depends on the RAID controller doesn't it? ICP Vortex controllers used to let y...

Re: TP9400 drive sled equivalent?

Since $15 a pop was out of my budget (thanks for the offer, though), I've found that placing a thick piece of cardboard under the drive is enough support to properly attach a drive to the backplane as long as I don't plan of moving the disk trays around much -- a safe bet since they weight about 10...

Re: KVM Question

I'm using a IOGEAR GCS1734 (4 ports). The default cables are for usb only but you can buy a PS2 cable that plugs into the switch. I'm sharing the keyboard and mouse between my Octane, pc desktop, and laptop - seems to be working fine. I'm not sharing the monitor though - I've got the Octane set up o...

Re: Anyone else had a BAD X-Mas?

No emotional trauma here for the holidays. I did sleep in a snowbank though. Seemed preferable to sharing the farm house with herds of ankle biters shouting "Wii! Wii!" Grrrr.

That is the one I'm considering. He told me 200 lbs as a guess - which seems heavier then I'd have expected.

SGI Origin 300 Short Rack (17U)

Re: HONOR AMONG Thieves......but not ebay

Yeah I hear you... Let the buyer beware though - check out the shipping costs before bidding. Personally I prefer a fixed cost for shipping on ebay auctions to avoid any surprises. You also have to consider the amount of time it takes to pack, print the labels, etc - even if the seller is shipping o...

I actually understand your passion for space and mars especially. Me myself, I'm hobbist astronomer. This message will be pretty off topic, but hell with sticking to topic if there is something interesting to talk about! :) Ditto - local club here is having a public program this Thursday to do some...

Shit I mean if he *really* cared about reducing CO2 HE WOULD TELECOMMUTE AND WOULDN'T FLY HIS ASS ALL AROUND THE WORLD. You forgot about the volcanoes friend! ;) Volcanoes and other natural processes release approximately 24 Tg of sulfur to the atmosphere each year. Thus, volcanoes are responsible ...

Re: How do you manage your network?

Using a mix of DHCP with a linksys router for the windows machines. The SGI boxen get static IP's and I use /etc/hosts to map names.

LDAP is cool, but I think its to much work for using at home, esp when I don't run all of the computers constantly.

Re: WHO IS GETTING THE IPHONE...

When I first looked at the interface screen shots - I thought wow, that looks cool. I might get one when they come out. Then I started paying attention to the press and realized that it was AT&T only - which means here in North Dakota, Kenya will get the damn thing before we do. Feature wise - I...
