Re: Cube logo before SGI (maybe...)

Well, thanks for pointing out the original logo designer, who I wasn't aware of. Yet, the similitude with the cube in the album cover I hinted to is not too far. Nevertheless, I don't think anybody would care of right now: it was just out of curiosity.

Cube logo before SGI (maybe...)

Go to the home page of AllMusic ( http://www.allmusic.com/ ) and look at the Album of the day (and if you are reading this message on a different date, look for A Wizard, A True Star , by Todd Rundgren ). Now, everybody that knows the music of Todd knows also that he has always been heavily attracte...

Some time ago I donated to the people building the nekoware packages the build and patch files for all the stuff I used to maintain in the SGI Freeware project. fw_nut was among them, and hopefully there will be a proper neko_nut package (ask them). Unfortunately, I cannot help on this specific prob...

Re: MPlayer & DVD reading

Hello all, I don't know what command line is to be input to read the DVD with MPlayer. Is it possible to do this with this mounting method or a DVD drive is mandatory (then I need a hard to find IDE->SCSI adaptator)? I don't know about MPlayer (I don't use it), but quite surely it tries to read the...

I saw an Indy with IndyVideo on ebay the other day. I didn't know that Cosmo Compress for Indy had an eternal port (it does right?) and was trying to figure out if anything was installed in the other slot. Completely offtopic, but since I happen to have such combo: IndyVideo + CosmoCompress take bo...

nekoware tardists build FAQ

I've tried to read something regarding some guidelines in preparing nekoware tardists. Unfortunately, it seems that they are scattered in very long threads (the one named nekoware, for example, is 33 pages long!), while I think it would be better to create a sticky post for an easier quick reference...

http://www.cise.ufl.edu/~jorg/openGL/make/ismcommondefs Has some makefile reference to these binaries/scripts. Maybe part of swpkg? That is in fact the file (in pair with ismcommonrules) that makes references to idbjoin and the other idb* tools (and no, the one mentioned by neko matches idb* just b...

idb* in /usr/sbin?

Does anyone have idb* executables in his/her /usr/sbin directory? A project I'm following has reference to these tools (idbjoin, for example) in the makefile includes, but I've found that they exist nowhere. It smells like internal SGI stuff...

Thanks,

So I got an answer from Toshiba WRT to the SD M1401. Tech support says the 1401 is incapable of reading from RW disks. Period. Limitation of the hardware. So i'm back to square one. :( Another case of a company who doesn't know what it sells? I haven't the Fuel I working on normally handy r...

Damn! Should have thought about that one before and let "wget" loose on it. Actually I did just that some time ago when I heard a rumour that all the 5.3 and 6.2 "archived" material would be removed from the techpubs site. It ran for about a week and resulted in 2.5 GB's of PDF's :o Well, I've foun...

Re: asymmetric file transfer problem

First: don't use a hub, use always a switch, especially if there are old 10 Mbps ethernet cards intermixed. I seem to remember to have read something similar on comp.sys.sgi.* a long time ago, which involved auto negotiations (full/half duplex) between the O2 interface and some specific hub/switch. ...

I guess it would help to say than I am ususally ssh'ing into the machine when I want this to work. Ah, then it's up to SSH to setup that env var for the shell (csh, tcsh or whatever), and this is a different matter. Maybe within SSH the env var is called differently, look in the docs. Even if I use...

Re: Remote login Display variable

How do you get the display variable to be set automatically when you login remotely to the machine you are logging in from? it looks like this should just happen but doesn't. Typically there should be something like the following in your ~/.login file: # Set the default X server. if ($?DISPLAY ...

Sure does. Thanks! Any chance we could get you to do a neko_cups package? Well, eventually later on it could be a possibility. CUPS 1.1.21 was already on my TODO list (for SGI freeware, tho), but I've put it on hold since I've read that 1.1.22 will follow shortly due to some memory leaks that affli...
