Re: Solaris software?

You might be able to low level format the drive using the format command on the Solaris install disc. Another route may be to download and burn SystemRescueCD 0.4.0 Sparc64 and use it to run the linux version of sg3-utils. Either way try to have the machine on a UPS when doing this, a power failure ...

Re: PayPal Donation Link Added (Closed for now)

Although I haven't been active here for quite a few years, this site has a lot of information that can only be found here. I couldn't help but donate, since I still commonly find some useful posts here.

Old bugs are new again!

I was fighting a Linux problem (again!) , where all gtk+-1 apps were displaying all pixmaps as translucent. It may have looked cool to the eye candy junkies, but it made most programs unreadable. I have been messing around trying to fix it for some hours, then I remembered reading about a similar pr...

SD-M1401 Firmware

I have always noticed on all of my machines (Octane O2, or Indy) that has a SD-M1401 connected to it never worked correctly with cdman. The counter would stay at 0.0 and the player would not continue to the next track. It really isn't important, but it just happens to be slightly annoying. However; ...

I don't have any pro stuff any more, not enough room and not enough time. However I do have a nice Pioneer 9500II amp and tuner to keep me happy enough. Not to mention some 12" speakers...

Re: Joomla & Nekoware perl, mysql5, db4

Swmgr dosen't know how to find the tardist files for your prerequisites (never has never will). Swmgr wasn't deisgned to deal with external prequisites packed into tardist files. You can try installing the nekoware versions of perl, mysql, and db4 first but I'm certain you will run into even more pr...

Almost all Indy machines have those stickers.

Re: converting o2 audio only to audio+video

Most O2 audio modules are like that, with the analog video connectors covered with tape. Only late versions of the audio only module actually have the connectors missing.

Re: Parallel ZIP driver for DOS 5.00

HIMEM.SYS won't and never did work on an 8088. My elderly IBM XT has an AMD 8088 in it (100% compatable). Back in the day Intel contracted many companys to make 8088's to keep up with demand.

Re: O2 reliability

The O2 is probably one of the most finicky of any *NIX workstation I've ever come across. I hear the Multia is worse but I never had one. However; after a good cleaning and careful reassembly of mine it seems to be working great. The biggest problem seems to be the relatively flimsy motherboard tray...

Re: SCSI choices, choices, choices..

... one of the Adaptecs in the O2, which I have yet to dismantle. The 2940UW is the normal one for an O2 but somewhere I remember reading a post by someone who did a little hack to get a different (newer ? probably) Adaptec card recognized by Irix. Sorry my memory isn't better. It was a hack to get...
