Hey guys, contemplating dusting the dust off my SGI boxes. Looking for some ideas on securing, or improving security, or generally hardening the machines. I haven't worked with any UNIX for awhile, so even general/not IRIX specific stuff would be great. Thanks!

Playing 1st edition this very day. Our DM heavily re-worked magic user and skill sets, doesn't entertain monks and frowns on druids and thieves(!) I find the quirkiness of 1st appealing - I think a lot of people hated it, despite it's enormous success, but you had to really *think* about how to get ...
Are there any major anime releases coming soon, or have there been in the past year or so? I fade in and out of the whole anime scene - I used to collect a couple of series, but pretty much just into the major flicks now. Last two I saw were Howl's Moving Castle and Ghost in the Shell 2.

When people ask me what on earth do I do with such computers, I turn the question around and say, what *don't* I do? Well, I don't play Half Life, or Fear, or FarCry on my Octane and... well that's about it. My PC is a de facto game console. Obviously there are oodles of applications that run on Win...

I've never used Thunderbird as I've pretty much gotten glued to my Yahoo acct of several years and not about to get myself unstuck. I've done some searching off and on, and I have not seen one "definitive" response: No, Thunderbird needs a pop/smtp, Yes you can, but you need to pay for yah...
Maybe he has a Creator3D or Elite3D board installed but doesn't have a 13w3 adapter/cable so he wants to use the onboard hd15 connector. It's been awhile but I think the Ultra 10 defaults to any upa installed device, meaning if you want to use the onboard graphics, you'll have to pull the upa board ...
Mainly, it C++ and it's derivatives that repulse me. We've been an Ada shop where I work for sometime, but some new projects we've started developing are required C++ - just about everyone of us is ready to hang ourselves :x Our principle software is a Kalman filter for tracking satellites written ...
Does anyone know if the O2 can output 1600x1024 out the HD15 port to any LCD monitor that suppots the resolution, or must it have the FP adapter and 1600sw for that resolution to be available? My 1600sw is getting long in tooth, and getting another off Ebay is going to be a crap shoot that could net...

I just got a G160 for my Power Indigo2 and ran into this exact same problem. I do have an Impact backplane, however, that proved to be no help. Whether in the top two slots or the bottom two slots, putting the G160 in either of the two free slots caused the panic posted by Dexter. Not too big of a d...
