SoundTrack project file format documentation? Add importer to Audacity.

Hey everyone. I have a number of SoundTrack projects I'd like to be able to open in Audacity since it's more stable and versatile. Does anyone have or know of where I can find the project file format documentation? I know it's just a text file and I can probably figure it out just by looking at it, ...

Re: Random non-SGI computer stuff

Good point. I used it on my O2 with regular Red-book audio and ISO/Joliet/Rock Ridge PC format data discs just fine though FWIW. (I never tried using EFS/SGI CDs in it.) I used X-CD-Roast on IRIX (Thank you Nekoware!) to burn audio and data discs just fine as well.

Re: CPU catch-up - modern software on a 2.5GHz MIPS CPU useable?

Very interesting history, thank you. So is it accurate to say that SGI had a (very profitable) niche because they engineered around many shortcomings to produce machines that excelled at specific tasks years before general PC hardware would be redesigned to overcome those shortcomings? But once that...

CPU catch-up - modern software on a 2.5GHz MIPS CPU useable?

Since it seems the industry has hit a practical wall with CPU clock speeds about 10 years ago at 2.2-2.5GHz I wonder, if there existed a MIPS based CPU that ran at those speeds if modern software would run well on it, assuming of course 4-8GB of RAM and if said software could be compiled for it? (I ...

O2 RAM Superstore!

Hi everyone. When I dug my O2s out of storage, I also found a bunch of spare RAM for them so I tested it all (using the pre-boot 6.5 Diagnostics) and am now offering it to you. Prices do not include shipping. (If you're in the US, figure $7.15 for a USPS small flat rate box which can hold a good num...

Most powerful MIPS workstation?

In short, what is the most powerful MIPS-based workstation SGI (or any other manufacturer, for that matter) made? The Onyx4? How does such a machine compare to a 2010-era 2-core PC for general purpose workloads (Web browsing) as well as specialized (Video editing)? (Is there a Linux distro that runs...

Why can't we sell/trade original commercial software?

Hello. I see my posts about selling originals of Corel DRAW! for UNIX and Adobe Premiere for SGI have been taken down, per the forum rules so that's fine. But why does that rule exist? Can someone enlighten me? Of course I understand not trading pirated stuff, but what's wrong with original licenses...

Maxed out R12K and R5K O2s + 1600SW for sale!

Hey everyone. UPDATE: More RAM installed! It's been a long time since I was last active here and I finally pulled my O2s out of storage, cleaned and tested them and am ready to part with them. (I've moved on to using Cinelerra on a Linux machine for my editing needs.) I figured I'd give you all firs...

Stability problems

Hello again. Well, after leaving the system running for a few hours and then starting to use it, it's starting to get flaky...the framebuffer suddenly screwed up about 2 inches of screen lines (on my 1600SW) and restarting the X server times out. Also when editing audio in SoundEdit, the waveform fo...
