Impossible! Even my i486DX2 could play mp3 files. Something really went wrong with your configuration, I suppose. ;)

I use "dd" with some options, most of the time.

Also there are some VAX/VMS ISOs around here...

Re: How frequently you use your SGI (in 2017)?

Don't own any SGI at the moment but at least my Sun-4/75 and PCD-4H, both with Solaris 2.4. Because both are located in different cities, I power on the available machine once a week. I had to reinstall Solaris on my PCD-4H because got problems after patching without backups. I have to find the stum...

Re: Sunfire v880

Ui! Congratulations! - "the bay"? It will be extremely interesting to see how a Sun Fire v880 with 6 ultrasparc iii cu 1.2 GHz CPU's and a XVR-4000 fitted compare to an SGI Tezro! I suppose the then compiled "V880z" will outperform the Tezro even with Soalris OE default configura...

Re: Is it Solaris 1.0 ?

That's all correct. The term "Solaris" is a combination of SunOS 5.x (SysV based) + ONC Notworking + Windows Environment, versioning beginning from 2.0. SunOS 4.1.x was the main OS line for the new SPARC architecture of that time, Solaris 2.0 was still in development. For transition from B...

Maybe you're dreaming of an XVR-2500 within your Blade 2.5k. ;-)
But this was the best with Sun and graphics: in sum all manageable. :D

Re: Sunfire v880

I've got an XVR-2500 in my Sun Blade 2500 As Irinikus wrote already, you're talking about the XVR-1200 . ;-) The XVR-2500 is an PCI-express (PCIe) board for Ultra 25/45 workstations. In basic the XVR-2500 is a 3Dlabs Wildcat Realizm 500. The Blade 1500/2500 are equipped with PCI-X, so the best offi...

Re: Sunfire v880

S*** - the Mate tea keeps me awake... The Sun Fire V880(z) is a nice system but not "really" intended to be used next to the desk or at least for many hours. If you don't plan to use it with earflaps or in another room, then better be prepared! ;) As you already stated, the XVR-4000 graphi...

Re: Is it Solaris 1.0 ?

I read about the SunOS 4.1.1_U1 branded "Solaris 1.0" after Solaris 2.x was released and it was shipped only on CD-ROM, but this version seems to be more a base 4.1.1. At this point I have to proof/validate this... So you're right, at the core it's the SunOS 4.1.1 (BSD based) and has less ...

Is it Solaris 1.0 ?

I had big luck to get an ISO image which possibly contains SunOS 4.1.1 for eg. sun3x (Sun-3/80). The interesting part is, that this could be Solaris 1.0 release. Is that confirmed? I only nowing the tape version. Header of file _COPYRIGHT SunOS 4.1.1 SUNBIN sun4c, sun4, sun3x, sun3 CD-ROM (boot form...

Re: (solved) Illustrator for Irix

In Sun jargon you have an RTU license (Rights-to-Use) which permits you to get a valid license file or the product keys for the FLM. Because FLM ist proprietary SW there are maybe other ways to give it a try but you need some programming skills, deeper knowledge and an SDK depending on the FLM versi...

Not really a surprise but interesting! And where you can read it? - Only read about EVP John Fowler left Oracle. Thx
