Re: Octane in UK

512mb is a nice amount of Ram for a standard ish O2.

Network traffic

Could anybody advise how to check for transfer speed (bits or bytes) via ethernet port? I'm busying transferring stuff from my debian NFS server and it's taking for ever, even for a measly 600mb.

Could be either command via debian / irix. Thanks.

Re: Octane1 2x300MHz, 2GB RAM, EMXI

Wow, looks great! Is this the eBay 'paypal will be refunded job?' No, the EZSetup should not have that effect. Just checked my 6.5.30 O2 install, both fonts match. I assume you installed from overlay 1, fed in the other 'disks' and then just went on from there? Try Toolchest -> Desktop -> Customize ...

Re: your latest purchase

256mb of Kingston O2 Ram, brand new never seen the contacts of a motherboard. :) Might as well add a 'Win' for the day. Managed to set up NFS on my debian drive which is currently serving my irix install media as well as the current nekoware packages. My networking knowledge is zip, zero, nil, nothi...

Re: Octane1 2x300MHz, 2GB RAM, EMXI

Lovely config you have, the dual 300mhz is no slouch and should run just about anything you throw at it.

If it's gonna live on your desk / below your desk consider getting the psu fan and scsi backplane fan swapped for quieter ones.

Re: Octane in UK

I'll hopefully pimp my O2 with a 300mhz cpu soon and get it to 384mb. Will most likely get it set up, fully installed with nekoware then box it up till I can free up space to have it out. It's either my near quiet 400mhz Octane or my little toaster, and the Octane is just so so much faster. Hope you...

Re: Price check : O2 ram

Found some 128mb Kingston kits on eBay uk, bought two kits for £64 + £4 postage, not too bad...!

Will leave the old ram in to make a total of 384mb until I can source / afford 2x 256 kits for a total of 768mb.

Price check : O2 ram

Yes I know, how long is a piece of string and all that...Just trying to guage reasonable costs for O2 ram in the 128mb and 256mb kit varieties. I want to get my O2 to at least 384mb and have 4 slots left with 128mb installed in 2x 64mb kits. 6.5.22 with 128mb is painful. MemoryX sells 256mb kits for...

[eBay - not mine] Octane 2

£40 starting bid, looks in very good condition and good spec. Collection only though... https://www.ebay.com/itm/SGI-Octane2-R12000-400MHz-2GB-RAM-18GB-HDD/183172974781?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131017132637%26meid%3D2aff1992101540dc872e6f4e03b31166%26pid%3D100033%2...

Re: R7K 350mhz O2 module anybody?

The tricky part was the need to have a 300mhz board to do the swap on. It limited the number of people who could supply one for the batch run. I wish I had found one to jump in back then. :/ I suppose if we ever got enough people together to do a second batch it might help. -Mike True, some of the ...

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

I really like centOS. There is still some lack of coherency in linux desktop GUI that is still sorely missing. I...so....agree! I was a fan of Gnome 2 for a while, dislike Gnome 3 intensely, such a half baked attempt at a DE for touch screens. If I run Linux these days it's usually with XFCE as a D...

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

In centOS7. One monitor is Maya 2016 and the other is Nuke. Just trying to get the weekend renders prepped for showing the clients. I am always relieved to see they finished and the render layers have no errors. Are Autodesk still RPM only for distribution? I tried CentOS two years ago, solid but n...

Re: ScummVM version 2.0 avail for IRIX (12/2017)

That should run, I'm not a fan of the KQ series though, but many love 'em.

Quest for Glory 1 and 2 are also very good, some of my favourites.

Will be on my O2 when it gets going, for sure!
