Re: Octane + LDAP + Kerberos = ?

Perhaps you could ask a specific question? Note that clogin doesn't use PAM, so you have to disable visuallogin for that.

Re: Big Red Hourglass Mouse Cursor Infinitely

I'd guess it's fm/fam related or the Xsession(|.dt) script hanging. One of the last things that run are the toolchest.

Re: dunelegacy game compiles but dumps core

I'd suggest running bt instead of trying to guess the relevant frame.

Re: ADAT. And the secret is...

Just for information, Octanes happily accept and produce s/pdif signals on toslink. I've been using mine as a DAC for ages and to output to my MD deck.

Re: IRIX 5.3 client can't mount Linux NFS server (any more)

My guess is also the portmapper, or the daemons were executed in the wrong order so they aren't registered. See rpcinfo(1), it should print out a whole screen of portmaps if mountd and nfsd are running correctly. For reference, nfs uses four components (when not using locking etc): kernel support nf...

Re: Color Scheme files location?

It gets saved in the IRIX equivalent of ~/.mwmrc, embarrassingly I can't remember the filename offhand (I can check on one of my systems when I get home from the 'ol salt mine) but a quick way to find out is to save a new color scheme then do 'ls -at' in your home directory, the relevant file shoul...

Re: Octane2 keyboard and mouse

If you do get SGI keyboard and mice, aim for indy/indigo2 "slab" (SGI PN 9500900) and "puck" (SGI PN 063-0001-001), they're much nicer than the ones that came with the octanes. And remember: Do not dangle the mouse by its cable or throw the mouse at co-workers SGI put this in the...

My rack PDU has a LED readout with the current amperage (and stats via SNMP if you so desire), but then I'm not going low-power.

Re: Octane fan for drive bay not running?

It should always be running. I would take it apart and check for obstructions in the fan or if the wires have been pinched if someone has taken it apart before. It's been a while, but the procedure to get to the fan should be something like this: You need to remove the xio carrier and cpu board, fro...

Re: Newbee needs help with error message...

Thanks Duck! I will replace it. What would be the easiest way to do this? I have no IRIX cd's, cause the system was already on the Indy when I bought it. Can I plug in the extra HD and copy maybe? Yes, this might be possible (the Indy has space for two 3.5" drives), but the question then becom...

Re: Newbee needs help with error message...

Your disk is broken, you'll need to replace it. That the file alteration monitor (fam) isn't running is probably just a side effect.
