Re: Octane2 keyboard and mouse

If you do get SGI keyboard and mice, aim for indy/indigo2 "slab" (SGI PN 9500900) and "puck" (SGI PN 063-0001-001), they're much nicer than the ones that came with the octanes. And remember: Do not dangle the mouse by its cable or throw the mouse at co-workers SGI put this in the...

Re: Low power home network setups

My rack PDU has a LED readout with the current amperage (and stats via SNMP if you so desire), but then I'm not going low-power.

Re: Octane fan for drive bay not running?

It should always be running. I would take it apart and check for obstructions in the fan or if the wires have been pinched if someone has taken it apart before. It's been a while, but the procedure to get to the fan should be something like this: You need to remove the xio carrier and cpu board, fro...

Re: Newbee needs help with error message...

Thanks Duck! I will replace it. What would be the easiest way to do this? I have no IRIX cd's, cause the system was already on the Indy when I bought it. Can I plug in the extra HD and copy maybe? Yes, this might be possible (the Indy has space for two 3.5" drives), but the question then becom...

Re: Newbee needs help with error message...

Your disk is broken, you'll need to replace it. That the file alteration monitor (fam) isn't running is probably just a side effect.

Re: Have any one seen any good anime lately?

I remember getting some episode of Lain when I hadn't really gotten into anime and I was so confused. It's really hard to source manga and anime here so I've been leaning pretty heavily on crunchyroll, they've got the occasional nugget that isn't geofenced away from me and surprisingly netflix poppe...

Re: Unable to boot via bootp (Octane)

So I rebooted my octane just to see what it says, and I could load stuff off tftp provided I a) set the next-server address (this made it actually perform the tftp request, even though the dhcpd config had server-name set and the prom did say it was loading something off that address) b) DIDN'T set ...

Re: LDAP authentication

I set it up on my Octane Things to keep in mind: You will need to have a local slave ldap server (openldap) if you want to use tls, and you cannot use clogin with pam (you're stuck with the ugly xdm login or something third-party). I suspect changing passwords (EXOP) won't work, but I don't remember...
