Re: Archiver 0.1 - IRIX/IMD GUI for tar.

0.3 worked just fine out of the box for me, but it seems to expect tar to be gnu tar and not the sgi default which does not support the z flag.

Re: NIS Password format

My octane authenticates using LDAP, it's a bit quirky since I needed to run a local openldap server and use good ole' xdm login (clogin doesn't interface with PAM AFAIR) to get it to work. I don't remember why I had to set up the replication, but now that I look at the config file again it might hav...

Re: getopt_long for IRIX

NetBSD's pkgsrc has a package with netbsd-compatibility functions that include getopt_long. It's called libnbcompat. This works on IRIX, and might provide other useful things if you are feeling porty. http://pkgsrc.se/pkgtools/libnbcompat http://cdn.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/current/pkgsrc/pkgtools/libn...

I use my Octane every day, although it's mostly thunderbird and a terminal to the servers in the closet.

Yes, the PC164 uses 72-pin FPM. Any other differences you know of?

I'm surprised as to how different the board layout is compared to my AlphaPC 164 (no suffix).

Re: Why a static address not shown on the router

It could be any number of things and I for one am not psychic (or somehow able to magically divine whatever the software on your router does).

Tell us what you're doing and what results you are seeing and someone might be able to give an answer.

Re: What is difference b/w soft link and mount partition

I sense much confusion in the questioneer. My apologies if this seems patronising, but it seems like these concepts could use a bit of a firming up. A link is a file that points to the same data as another file in a given file system. The files are exactly the same, except for there being two of the...
