Re: WeirdStuff Warehouse is closing Sunday April 8
Annnd the pages behind the homepage are gone. Oh, and most of the images on the homepage are gone in the past couple of minutes. Sigh. IIRC, WeirdStuff supplied my first working SGI acquired in the 21st century, an Octane, in 2010 to judge from the forum posts. I first stumbled on WeirdStuff on a we...

Those look like MMJ serial connectors on the back, with the offset tab on an RJ45. I don't recall ever seeing that on non-DEC gear...

Shoot, I was hoping to learn that my old Rainbow CryptoSwift and HP AXL300 cards were somehow wildly valuable...

Re: QEMU/x86 on Loongson3
Loongson has come up periodically over the years, but when I've looked for the hardware - typically laptops - it's been tough to find. But I've only looked periodically, and not terribly hard.
Products did get made and shipped. Not sure what the current status is.

Ah, I thought that was going to be the $1,200 + S&H unit I spotted on ePay over the weekend.
I had just managed to forget the details of the last Craigslister with a PI to flake out on me. Now you've re-traumatized me!

Re: Maplins.. GONE a sad day for the UK
Sorry, I think I was only in a Maplin's once to pick up a replacement electrical plug adapter whilst in London. It seemed like a perfectly reasonable place. But:
Ax-Man Surplus is definitely on my list if I ever make it to the Twin Cities!

I refuse to be limited to some arbitrary number of xkcd comics, unless that number is asymptotic to the number of xkcd comics currently known to exist.

Re: Computer with a real serial port
Laptops are a good choice because you don't need to worry about space for a separate keyboard, monitor, etc. But if you're looking for something less portable, I would suggest an old thin-client. They usually include one or two real serial ports, often a parallel port, USB, etc. You'll probably get ...

Re: Have any one seen any good anime lately?
I really liked the film version of Your Name , I think I watched it on a plane earlier this last year. Not so thrilled at the idea of JJ Abrams getting his hands on it... I mentioned Erased before - anybody notice the live action version on Netflix? I might be more optimistic if I hadn't tried to wa...

Re: SCSI Storage devices
I've always had good luck with Adaptec 29xx or 39xx[x] controllers in x86, but Symbios/LSI cards should be fine too.
