Re: SGI UV 1000 Cluster Manager Problem

That's pretty new for most of us here. I'm not sure many people here have seen a UV system much less operated one. Can you copy from your terminal some of the output that you're seeing? I'm assuming from the CMC console? Do you have more blades in the system besides BASIO and Disk? I would expect yo...

WTB V10 graphics for Fuel (or Tezro)

I'm looking for V10 graphics...I paid $69 for the last one I bought - shipped. I'd like to keep it there or less, but let me know what you can do. If you're opposed to some hackery, just stay away - I'm planning on removing the BNC connectors and stuffing the card in a Tezro to see if I can run dual...

Re: Octane2 chassis won't work with other mainboards

I pulled my Octane2 out, same story when it comes to the MENET. I believe on the 1.4 XBow frontplane one ethernet port and two serial ports become unavailable - solved by running the MENET in an older Octane chassis. On the Octane2 chassis in this thread, seems like it'll take older motherboards (bl...

Octane R12k 2x400MHz, 768MB, CADduo, MENET, GigE

I'm posting a new hinv for an Octane I posted about sometime ago. Lots of swapping around has happened and it's pretty different now. The plastics are the same Silicon Graphics Octane style in the previous post. The previous post showed a LED lightbar retrofit with blue and white leds, now it sports...

Octane R10k 2x250MHz, 256MB, CADduo, GigE

This is actually the Octane2 chassis I posted about elsewhere. Dug in a little and found the front plane only seems to accept older style motherboards and one particular new style motherboard I had available to test with. Since I had some bad memory there was some swapping going on and the end confi...

Re: New Tezro owner

That photo is great!

Mopar beat me to it, I was going to say the 2x800 is interesting, but I have a 2x600 in an Origin 350 that fills that interest (lower power for install and misc server).

Love the workbench, and the "monitor stand." That Octane2 looks nice and clean.

What is PureData?

Re: New Tezro owner

Drive trays were used by some Intel case and I believe some gateway server at least. So they're a bit easier to find on eBay and you don't have to pay SGI collector premium. Yes they're the same as the Origin/Altix 350. Optical drive is standard PATA/ATAPI and I think any old DVD reader/CD-R or DVD ...

Re: Origin 3200 Not Booting

Do you have another FC card as well? My Origin 3k had the FC card as controller 0 (I have more than one now, but originally). If so I suspect if you move the short FC cable to the other interface so your drives are on controller 0 instead of 1 you'll get more signs of life. Alternatively, head over ...

Re: Octane2 chassis won't work with other mainboards

Each network interface needs to be provisioned in software to work. The same is true for serial ports. How so? Let me elaborate, if I have the MENET in one chassis the serial ports and ethernet interfaces aren't reported by 'hinv', looking further they aren't even showing in the device tree. When I...

Re: Octane2 chassis won't work with other mainboards

Bit of an old thread, sorry to bring it back up since it has a big intro. I sold the 1x400 (B) Octane2, perhaps mistakenly...the chassis that only worked with the motherboard I received with it I kept - because the awesome Octane skins. I decided to build it up as a dual head, CADduo workstation wit...

Re: Irix netinstall

Test that you can reach the tftp server is reachable by running a client on a working network station. Then you can rule out tftp server not running, tftp server path wrong, tftp server permission problem, and firewall.

It wouldn't hurt to watch the syslog on the tftp server as you try.

Re: Most powerful MIPS workstation?

I missed this thread the first time around. So I'm surprised no one said Onyx 3900. Same CPU options as Onyx 350 (or Tezro), but scales to many more of them. Thanks, very interesting whitepaper. Seems that SGI's definition of "realtime graphics" is steady 60 Hz fps, which makes a lot of se...

Re: Fuel - on board network connector failed

Definitely time to drop in a PCI-X gig card....but you want the onboard to work so you can install from the network.

It's possible the network chip was damaged, but I wonder if the transformer is what took the blow and could be replaced....that's where I'd look first.

Re: Origin 3200 Power Supply

What about the individual power supply units? They each have a normal PC power plug and they are labeled such that they should accept either 110/120 or 220/240. I'm not sure if they'll power up and act normal if you try to start them outside the power bay. I think they need I2C or similar signaling...
