Re: Irix netinstall

Test that you can reach the tftp server is reachable by running a client on a working network station. Then you can rule out tftp server not running, tftp server path wrong, tftp server permission problem, and firewall.

It wouldn't hurt to watch the syslog on the tftp server as you try.

Re: Most powerful MIPS workstation?

I missed this thread the first time around. So I'm surprised no one said Onyx 3900. Same CPU options as Onyx 350 (or Tezro), but scales to many more of them. Thanks, very interesting whitepaper. Seems that SGI's definition of "realtime graphics" is steady 60 Hz fps, which makes a lot of se...

Re: Fuel - on board network connector failed

Definitely time to drop in a PCI-X gig card....but you want the onboard to work so you can install from the network.

It's possible the network chip was damaged, but I wonder if the transformer is what took the blow and could be replaced....that's where I'd look first.

Re: Origin 3200 Power Supply

What about the individual power supply units? They each have a normal PC power plug and they are labeled such that they should accept either 110/120 or 220/240. I'm not sure if they'll power up and act normal if you try to start them outside the power bay. I think they need I2C or similar signaling...

Re: Origin 3200 Power Supply

I plug mine into 240 volts. My machine would need two 120 volt circuits, if it was fully working, which it currently is not. Another note is they power supplies seem to need a few moments before they'll produce 48volts. If you have a L2 controller with display it's easy to see the display won't fire...

Re: Indy or O2 for hostile-heat environment

What I do for dual-drive setups (common commercial request, for drive cloning/backup) is customise the sleds and fit an extra fan: http://www.sgidepot.co.uk/misc/custom_indy_fan.jpg While I like the idea of some active cooling on the drive, your fan pulls hot air off the expansion cards up against ...

Re: Indy or O2 for hostile-heat environment

Challenge S 180 MHz SC w/Sony PSU, SSD if you can swing it, otherwise a modern drive with SCA adapter chosen for coolness. I might leave the floppy cover out, if you even have one. Just roasted my Challenge S with 28 C room temps for almost a week. I use a 2.5" Seagate (Savio I think) drive. 10...

My googling agrees. And while I don't have the 8mb version on the shelf, I don't need more 4mb ones on my shelf so please don't hold it for me.

Re: O350 Quad 700MHz Node Board

I'm set on these...doesn't everyone with a Tezro or O350 have one or two of these in their closets?

But I want to ask, 8mb cache or 4mb cache?

Also don't hesitate to buy from the Raion-Fox, he stands behind his transactions.

Re: Why a static address not shown on the router

Are you talking about something like a client list on the router? Those depend on the router seeing traffic or communicating with the client station. It might take some time to update or whatever mechanism the router uses to collect the data hasn't happened. Try running some traffic to the internet ...

Re: Bizarre connection attempts to Facebook

I would maybe guess even though Facebook integration is off maybe it's trying something? That would be pretty disheartening, but Apple software has been disheartening for a while. But my primary guess is websites open on the Mac which use Facebook comments or other elements. The Facebook icon on som...

Octane will perform a startup chime if you connect external speakers.

The PROM off command is not shared by many systems.
