Re: FS/FT: Misc. Older Sun Parts (and a Powermac 7500 CPU)

Unfortunately this stuff is probably just going to go in the trash if no one wants it. No reasonable offer will be refused!

FS/FT: Misc. Older Sun Parts (and a Powermac 7500 CPU)

All of this older Sun stuff is taking up too much space and I'm pretty much just looking to get it out of here. None of it is terribly special and I'm not looking for very much, probably only a few dollars depending on what you want. Alternately, I'd be willing to trade for a 50MHz or faster SuperSP...

Re: IRIX 4 dist format

Maybe this would be better for the wiki. I have most of the history format figured out but not 100%, so maybe other people could fill in some of the gaps.

Re: IRIX 4 dist format

Am I allowed to talk about the GL2-W3.7 source here? It matters to how I proceed.

IRIX 4 dist format

There was some discussion about this in another thread, but I figured a new one was warranted. The IRIX 4 dist format is actually really, really simple. Here's a hedxdump of what the beginning of a file full of data (.sw) looks like: 00000000 69 6d 30 30 31 56 34 30 30 50 31 35 00 00 1b 75 |im001V40...

Re: Brute-forcing 4.0.5H on an Indigo R4K

that's a nice workaround hbent. easy to do and apparently working :-) Thanks! The machine has been up for a few days now, grinding away and definitely putting all of the newly available RAM to good use. I did have an unrecoverable parity error early on, but I reseated all the RAM and that seems to ...

Re: WTB 2MB Power Series SIMMs

Quite sure that SGI never used DEC ram (MS01-AA). The PowerSeries has ECC ram, the low-mid DECstations do not. They obviously wouldn't have branded it the same way. It just seemed too coincidental that both machines were R3000s using 80pin SIMMs that no one else was using. My memory is that they lo...

WTB 2MB Power Series SIMMs

I'm looking for the 2MB SIMMs that go in the MC2/IP9 as used in the Power Series machines. This is actually for a DECstation, but I'm 99% sure that they use the same weird 80pin ECC RAM. I'm only looking for the 2MB ones, I unfortunately can't use the 8MBs.

Re: Brute-forcing 4.0.5H on an Indigo R4K

I know at some point I figured out how to manually extract sets from 4.0.5.x maintenance CDs. I think it might have involved using 5.3's inst (which has rulesoverride) to install the single package to a scratch directory, and then moving those files over to 4.0.5. Obviously 4.0.5 inst/versions won't...

Brute-forcing 4.0.5H on an Indigo R4K

I wanted to use 256MB of memory under 4.0.5 on my Indigo R4K, which technically you need 4.0.5IOP for (4.0.5F only supported 128MB). Since I don't have a copy of 4.0.5IOP but I do have a copy of 4.0.5H A360, I did a little manipulation and got a working install. Here are the basic steps: -Copy the c...

Re: Parting Out 4D/340 VGXT

Where are you located? If shipping would not be astronomical, I would be interested (I'm in Pennsylvania). I do have a couple of 4k indigos and I can check specs for you or we can do a cash deal. I'm in NE Ohio outside of Cleveland. I don't think shipping for several boards would be astronomical, e...

Parting Out 4D/340 VGXT

I have come to the realization that the chassis and power supply for my 4D/340 VGXT are just too far gone to be repaired, so I am parting out the boards. I have no idea what the going rate for any of these are, so just PM me offers and we'll work something out. I will ship anywhere in the world as l...

Re: Iris Indigo Dead Graphics?

I re-cleaned everything I could conceivably clean (without pulling chips) on the CPU board but the machine is still unhappy. I didn't see any blown/bulging capacitors, and overall the board is in excellent shape. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to check next? Is it worth disassembling t...

Re: Iris Indigo Dead Graphics?

If there was damage on the CPU board, wouldn't the LED be a different color? I don't think so. AFAIK, the LED is a simple amber/green one. Green is good. Amber indicates any problem. Are the RAM and CPU module properly seated on the motherboard, and the motherboard in turn properly seated in the sy...
