Re: Recommendations

As for 1) most older workstations just cold reset when you powercycle by either pressing the button or pull and reconnect the plug. I had planned on using a switched PDU to allow for a system not in use to stay offline until needed and also for reboots. That would be rather simple as well. You coul...

Re: Recommendations

RoboInst, that sounds awesome but I understand Dexter1's point. Considering the issue with creating a true bare metal service, I had been looking for a way to cheat. It is also why I was wondering about FC HBA options and booting from SAN. Keeping fresh images for a quick inst by way of pointing to ...

Re: VBOB and other required video hardware for CCTV setup?

I could have been more detailed in my response but like most projects, low quality analog would do. Two channels would be enough but having at least 4 would be nice as well. I was driven by the idea of an overprices video editing setup for it as I have no use for the equipment for what it is intende...

Re: Recommendations

Sorry for the late response. I may create a new post as to not highjack this thread as this discussion on security recommendations is important. As for your first question, I am really attempting to cheat by basing it on the IRIX Bare Metal Recovery found at the link below. http://www.backupcentral....

VBOB and other required video hardware for CCTV setup?

Is there a way to use or setup an SGI config to monitor and record multiple video channels for a CCTV setup for security? Ridiculous and over complicated I know and far out of scope but that is what I want to waste my time and money on. What are your thoughts? I am thinking small Sony lcd monitors a...

Re: Recommendations

I know I haven't posted often nor in a long time but I am still active with my IRIX use and trolling this forum but I still love all you guys who really make this site what it is and I should be ashamed for not making an effort for contributing more but I digress. I want to keep the discussion of se...

Re: o2 slow - compare with Octane, Fuel, Mac Pro

I have no desire to use my IRIX box for 3D or Video. I am all about console and Lynx. For me it is all about network/server administration. Getting a full working Ansilbe environment would be my goal. I have been playing with the pwn pad from pwnieexpress.com and it occurred to me that I could skirt...

Re: Show Off Your Home Office Setup & SGI Collection...

That's badass. Thank you. I still have a good bit of work to do to get it all setup. There needs to be an 800 - 900Mhz Fuel under that desk as well. Is that a Lineman's Test Set dangling from the top right in the third picture? Yes it is. Was not sure where to put it just yet. I spent years tracing...

Re: Show Off Your Home Office Setup & SGI Collection...

Well, I just moved recently and no longer have a room to use as an office but I got this odd space in the hallway that I have been working on getting together as my workspace. I still have a lamp to hang and to decide on what will really stay as far as art and shelving. The right cable management sh...

Re: Wishing to build an ultra-silent O2

I can confirm that an SSD works as could a few others here on the forum. As for the noise I was hoping for the same thing but as jan-jaap stated, it was designed to provide proper airflow if needed. To be honest, I was still considering the fan swap until his better explanation as to why it may not ...

Re: SATA in O2 with ARS-2160H

I'm probably missing something, but a free Supportfolio account should still let you download the 6.5.22 overlays right to the O2, and I believe they should work fine with 6.5.9 - and don't forget to apply patch 5086 before the .22 overlay. Thanks SMJ. It has been so long I hadn't even thought abou...

Re: SATA in O2 with ARS-2160H

It has been awhile but I did get IRIX installed. Unfortunately, I only got discs that get me to .9 so I either need to find someone locally to help image my original SCSI drive or get the overlays that I need. This is the point where I kick myself in the a** for selling my modest collection thinking...

That is great. I will send you 100k meat. As for the adventures, you can get more by eating and drinking. The better the food and the drink, the more adventures it will give. Just remember not to get too drunk.
