I'm a little surprised these discussions are really necessary given that hard data is now available re the benchmark results I've accumulated for Blender, C-Ray and various other tests. Have...

Re: quadcore vs sgi 8 processor system.

People need to stop looking at MIPS/SGI boxes through rose coloured glasses - they are a long way off the pace - period. If you do the most basic of research/experiments etc this becomes very very clear. I run my SGI boxes as a hobby, fun, interesting but the reality is even my O3k systems can't cu...

Re: There's a ton of cheap 1600SW's on ebay.de

You'll need an adapter card or an appropriate graphics card for any system you wish to connect it to, including the O2. I guess that's why they're cheap... because the adapters needed are expensive. :) Yeap - although your replacing a SW1600 they're great. Or if your putting a O2 together and have ...

...have an Indigo2 & a Fuel. Want another SGI box. Recommendations? Once upon a time, I'd an Indigo. Out of nostaligy, I might be tempted to get me one once again - but maybe there are better choices now... Just a collector or are you 'using it' for anything (other then having fun ??) I would a...

Octane2 bits left (1GB sticks, V8, V10, Cardcage, etc ..)

Hi guys . I still have nice Octane2 bits left If you emailed before and I never got back to you very sorry - between the Octane sale and my other nekochan email I was _flooded_ with mail Anyway. Cardcage $175 8Sticks of HD 1GB Octane RAM (you must have the 'newer' Octane motherboard to use this). I'...

Re: quadcore vs sgi 8 processor system.

this is a bit of a dumb question isn't it! They are so many variables - which cores, whcih S/W, which SGI system at what speed.... But I think you can safely say a modern quadcore will toast 8//16 MIPS processors at most tasks.# I know cost based the sgi wins ??????? Really - how do you figure? May...

Re: WTB: SGI O2 Audio/Video module

Mine seems to be on the fritz as it doesn't display any video from an external source (can display itself if I link the output to the input) I'm in New Zealand os if anyone has one to sell let me know! Thanks Mark I have one - I'm in Canada but you can have it for $25 plus shipping If your displayi...

Re: Origin 200, 270MHz R12k, 2GB RAM, dual Gbit, FDDI

Grovey .... FDDI is something that I never got/wanted to play with. By the time I started playing with 'real' networking and computers 100Base had already long since killed FDDI. What kind of performance can you get out of the thing ?? Also can you noticed/tested (could you ??) any performance diffe...

Re: Is Your Son a Computer Hacker?

Holly crap I wish the world would lookup the word hacker (and that article *has* to be a joke - or middle America is more messed up then previously thought) Hacking = learning about hardware and software sitting with the fools in 'class' or learning more then the manual gifts you with Cracking = mes...

Re: Strange behaviour when running diskperf on a Fuel...

I've hit a wierd problem trying to run diskperf on a Fuel (full hinv and screen output below). When firing off the usual command, no tests are executed, and the output is strange: it shows the command is selecting a max test size smaller than the minimum. If I use -m to change the max to something ...

Re: recording uncomp s-vid to SGI O2, tips, and array question

thanks, but that's not the problem, I've got two 2940uw's with wide ext, one with narrow ext, and a 2940u2, but disks... what I could do, is switch to my Sun Ultra 2 with Sun Video, and the 1GB sbus FCAL card, and hook that up to a friend's array, but I'm having private time with my sgi now. it loo...

Re: Will these work in sgi array?

Well...I guess I will try this one more time. Will follow instructions above...if they dont work I may have to have a little target practice. Always wondered what a 10Guage slug would do to a drive   High-velocity generally results in a more spectacular impact that high-mass/low s...

Re: Memory Usage

I have an Octane with 4Gb memory, but when selecting the ~600Mb Irix item from gmemusage, the resulting breakdown goes flying off the bottom of the window no matter how much it's resized... the reason for this seems to be that I have an entry for "Other : -215392 K" about half-way down th...

Re: Installing full height MGRAS card in O2k(A little guide)

LOL - go for it... works good. Airflow through an O2k is way better than it ever was in an Octane, so heat should not be an issue whatsoever. Though it was dissapointing that the PVO didn't work on the O2k, now I have a missing metal divider as well - I'll probably swap the metalwork from the other...
