Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

And lo, several someones have written Emacs extensions to turn it into a spreadsheet...every time I make a joke about Emacs, I go and look it up afterward and find out that it's actually the case. I thought you were being serious, I certainly wasn't going to take that bet. But there is one called D...

My "text editor" is a pen and notebook. I prefer unlined sketchbooks.

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

For what we do I would probably be better off using matlab, but I like excel. Usually, if I feed it too many numbers I can walk away for a couple minutes and come back and it will be done. This is pretty rare and it normally returns a result in a couple seconds. The same cannot be said for google sh...

They could be paying apple or microsoft the same price for what is largely the same product. IT has picked and purchased, not my decision obviously.

I only use the email and calendar part. I use excel a lot, google spreadsheets would be brought to its knees in seconds.

Re: your latest purchase

There's a surprising number of Nekochanners who are into synthesizers, actually. I have no idea why this should be the case, but there you are. Hmmmm.... would it be possible to create a 'how did you get into synthesizers' thread? I found out recently one of my favourite prog-rock groups had more t...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

Apple will switch to ARM for low end MacBooks once the economy of doing so makes sense. It makes sense for iPad and tablets, it doesn't really make sense for MacOSX, therefore I expect it will be 'iOS-laptop'. Something you can use for browsing, taking pictures, listening music, and videochat Apple...

I knew this, somewhere deep in the back of my head.

Regardless, the body may stay shiny but it takes a lot of proactive work to keep them from disintegrating underneath.

So this is probably still OT but I'm just wondering aloud what the possibility of an ARM macbook will be in the next few years. I mean, the ipad pro is as powerful
(if not moreso) as the macbook already.

Which laptop has the best(1) keyboard and input device(2) ? (1) I define "best" as comfortable and ergonomic (2) trackball, touchpad, trackpad Keep in mind I'm typing this on my w520 at work, but thinkpads would be a distant second to the razer blades. The blade pro also has the pad to th...

I have an old Kvaser pci card with two CANs on it, it could go in a shoehorn. Drivers shouldn't be too complicated. You can get an ELM327 with a serial port on the other end.

You can disable TCS, but not ESC altogether, from what I have understood. ESC consists of several parts including skid control computer, yaw sensors and lateral acceleration sensors You are referring to two separate systems. "Traction control" reduces motor output to prevent wheelspin, an...

Re: How do you explain....

Right, the last auto accident I was involved in I was walking in a crosswalk and was hit by a driver DUI (on oxys) who was turning left and didn't stop. The police let her go without even a citation. At least she was honest and admitted she shouldn't have been driving. I hope things like this can be...

I guarantee you will get a fantastic job in the future Bah, I am afraid nowadays all the knowledge acquired on how to reinstall windows doesn't pay you back Because it's so hard to stick in the disk your computer came with, and leave the thing alone for 4 hours? Is there seriously *any* knowledge t...

Well since the end of last year I've dumped (sold): -iphone, ipad, watch, mac pro, macbookpro (still have AEBS!) - xbox one, 360, and PS4. Gee-whiz fact: the latency on the Wii U's gamepad's wireless display is *less* than any HDMI TV (admittedly, a low bar). It also doubles as a TV remote which is ...

Fluid Film.

Put it on under our old escape and not a spot of rust after many ohio and ontario winters.

IIRC only the bodywork on DMC's were aluminum. The rest of the car rotted away even more quickly than normal. I talked to an owner at a car show once so I'm now instantly an expert 8-)
