Re: Mac Pro 2013

Re: BASH the SGI font logo

The 2000-era type is fine, especially after seeing what they did in 2009, not that anybody cared by then. As a proof of "it can always be worse..." The late-90's badging on the machines (Octane, o2, etc era) always seemed a bit "unstable" or unbalanced to me. They look good but i...

Re: CM-5 Connection machine case for SBC

One thing to keep in mind with 3D printing is that overhangs (like the top of the case there) need to either be printed with supports (which can cause a problem as they can be messy once removed) or as real overhangs (which also can come out messy or fail altogether). However, I wouldn't worry abou...

No SGI.

Holding out for a new mac pro next year. My old one lasted 11 years before crapping out- tho when I bought it, it was already 5 years old.

hamei is probably the last person here still using irix (and nekoware) on a day to day basis. Which should count for something.

Re: Onyx Problems, seemingly power related

IIRC on the back where the 505/303/etc vrms go, one of the boards holds the system controller; the screen on the front panel is just that, a screen, and the actual system controller is on this board. I thought it had a couple voltage rails of it's own. Sorry it's been literally years since I've even...

Octane.

The reasons why should be obvious to anybody who's ever used been in the same room as one.

Onyx, disneyworld (Aladdin magic carpet VR ride) 1994 Eventually worked my way up to getting one of those beasts of my own after my university was purging all of their Octane and O2 machines (early, 97 or 98 era). Me and SiliconClassics worked out a deal for a lot of two machines. Complete with ruin...

Re: Hot-rodding my G5 - storage performance

Is that really faster than trashcan macpro? I upgraded my macbookpro11,1 with a 1tb disk from a trashcan and it was well above those numbers according to blackmagic benchmark... just below 1GB/s for r and w. But that was a different (quck and dirty) benchmark program as I upgraded for size, not spee...
