I have a bunch of brochures and manuals for the old Fisker Karma, I wonder if they'll be worth anything someday

Re: How can we encourage better group participation on this site?

I like iFixit. Very useful for smartphone repair guides, etc. I used your Onyx guide when I took apart mine for transport. Very helpful! Thanks! They have a lot of good content in terms of repair information, but a lot of the extracurricular BS I find plain misguided. Rather than explain how to do ...

The procedure that jan-jaap carries in order out to sort out the problem of dying batteries in Dallas chips, for example, could make a very interesting video if correctly produced) http://software.majix.org/irix/index.shtml http://www.sgidepot.co.uk/sgi.html http://www.sgistuff.net/mirrors/4dfaq/in...

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

That stuff they put in compressed air cans. Which are great for shooting upside down at CNC bits when milling plastic like ABS. Keeps the work piece from melting into a congealed mess on the bit. Just don’t do it before lunch, like the opposite of swimming.

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

Projection CRTs are more likely to be replaced for other reasons than just burning out. Burn-in on the phosphors is a big problem and it affects these tubes more than regular display units. You should be very careful about on-screen display characters, network bug logos, computer menus, or anything...

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

aperture grille TVs were EXPENSIVE. Not really, our 27" trinitron was $400 in '98. We had furnished a few apartments with some REALLY cheap 25" RCA sets (no video in, mono sound, etc) around the same time, and they were still $250, as sort of bottom-of-the-barrel comparison. You could hav...

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

I remember back in the day when CRT screens had dazzling pictures. I don't think I've seen a good one in at least 10 years. The phosphors wear unevenly (burn in) leaving latent images, so many I've seen where you can see the windows xp login screen etched in even when they are turned off after a few...

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

The one advantage I've found that the CRT units have over LCD and DLP units are that they are much better at resolution scaling. I can find the usual 1024x768, 1920x720 or 1920x1080 units(or units that totally say they are but they are TOTALLY scaling the hell out of something smaller) but they do ...

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

Some of the modern DLP projectors are really great. Throw distance of only a foot or two, bright enough to use during the day by only closing the shades, etc; full 1080p is available for a reasonable price. However you can get a really great 1080 or 4k LCD for about the same price and is as big as y...

Re: Article: The Coming Software Apocalypse

In the old days of fixed frequency machines like Apple II, Atari 800, Commodore Amiga, once your code ran well enough you shipped it. That's because in those days the devices were plugged in to AC power and the customer paid for electricity. Today in the age of cloud computing where you the softwar...

I was actually still using a nike sportband up until last week... and when nike worsened their website *again*... and broke smashrun compatability. ... Fenix 5.
