Vaxstation 3200 for sale, pickup in Bonn/Cologne area, Germany

Hi everyone, I've finally decided to part with my Vaxstation 3200. I no longer have the time for this pet project, and I never managed to get installation media for it. Specs as follows: ⋅ BA23 case ⋅ 24Mb RAM (2 boards) ⋅ KA-650 CPU @11MHz ⋅ TK50 tape drive &...

Re: DEC Alpha/VAX for sale near Lucerne, Switzerland

Quick update: I'm giving up on the VAX and plan on scrapping it this spring. The frustration of going through two dead CPU boards finally made me realise I'm wasting my time on this project. If anyone wants any of the good parts (PSU, RAM boards, RF72, fan drawer), let me know. I can also ship from ...

Re: First power up, Crimson and PowerSeries

Great to see it got the attention it deserved; too bad the PSU decided to cave just then, infact the very instant the guy touches it! :)
The disk is in the external enclosure, right? Nice combo with the Indigo, btw. Congrats!

Re: First power up, Crimson and PowerSeries

Congrats, Pontus. Looks like the time invested in recapping did save you some headaches down the road. :) Btw, still no luck on my end with a replacement CPU for my VAX 4000 (sorry for the OT). :( Good luck with the expo! I'd love to hear the reactions to a working Crimson. The RE in mine is positiv...

Re: HP/SUN (mostly) boxes for sale in Bonn, Germany

Quick update: most of the SUNs are sold or reserved for pickup. Stating this weekend I will not have access to this gear again until Easter, but bump me in the meantime if you're still interested.

Best regards,

Re: First power up, Crimson and PowerSeries

Hi Pentium, yeah, that's how it started on mine: sporadic resets for no reason, then got progressively worse. In the end I noticed the power LED on the panel flickered; that's when I figured the PSU was getting a dodgy start signal from the panel, but the fault was in the PSU itself, namely the back...

Re: First power up, Crimson and PowerSeries

Hi Pontus, having also refurbed the PowerOne in my Crimson (thanks to some vital info from Jan-Jaap!), I also recommend replacing the 250V EMI supression caps on the backplane and the primary module, even if they show no cracks; they're bound to develop some, and you don't want to extract the PSU ag...

Dead Reality Engine

Happy new year, freekz! Well, it looks like the Reality Engine in my Crimson has completely given up on me. It's been sporadically redscreening for the past years and either causing the POD to hang forever, or dumping the following on the serial console: check_pipe_sync == dead console open ("g...

Desteeng desteeng one too tree...

Oh wow, I can actually post from my Crimson!

Still have issues with redscreening (GE8?), but that belongs in another thread.

Good luck JJ!

Re: Reverse engineering / fixing a PowerOne PSU

Btw, I take it you put aside the PSU, not the baby? :) Yeah ;) Should have buried it deeper though. It was still on the floor behind the dinner table. Yesterday my oldest son fell from his chair and landed head-first on top of it  Holy crap JJ, you are getting more trouble from that PSU than ...
