Re: Cheap NAS

Hello, I have installed my synology cs-407. It is working nicely for smb and nfs. It is not the fastest available but is quite feature rich. But you really need to be in giga-e to have something fully usable. Newer firmware in general bring new features. Maybe iscsi is next? For the french reader yo...

Re: Cheap NAS

Hello,

You might consider buying a synology box.
From one disk to 4 currently. 5 is coming.
For my collegues they are the "best" for home nas.

As soon as I have mine I will tell you.

Re: XLV JBOD volume as a startup disk?

Hello, Sgi is only supporting mirroring for the root fs. No stripping which sounds logical since the system would write the kernel with stripes and would be unable to read it at boot time since the prom can't handle stripes. That speed up a bit the system because you can read and write in parallel b...

Re: fun with network install onto clean disk

Hello, Some more additions : - You can use /etc/hosts.equiv with "+ +" line. Confortable when you need to redeploy a large amount of systems. You don't need to create a huge amount of entries in /home/guest/.rhosts - After a failed attemp the system might bug you with a message teeling you...

Re: Network install => "The distribution [...] does not exist."

Hello, I am playing the same game with 2 systems in parallel : - With the linux box it sounds to be a complete no go. Even the tftp is not working. - With the freebsd 6.2 box I have the tftp working and I can jump in the installer. I haven't tested further. What did you put in your /etc/bootptab pub...

Re: ATAPI CD-ROM cable in J6700

Hello,

It looks like this is a cable for the laptop device.
Hp/Compaq is using a normal cable that connect to an "adapter" that give a "smart media bay"...
This is what they do with dl servers. And this one look the same.
