Re: Hardware is Cheap, Programmers are Expensive

I was once on a conference something arround 2013'ish, and there was a team from PayPal that claimed they are experimenting with at that time relatively new Node.js, and claimed they are replacing a team of 20 Java developers with 2 - 3 JavaScript guys (taken from the Java stack) doing the same thin...

Re: Is there any legitimate-ish way to get MIPSPro anymore?

As i remember correctly you can run cc without permanent licence for trial purposes, it will suggest you to in fact get it, with listing now non existing addreses, but it will compile your Hello World without problem.

Re: Trade: Atari Falcon for Octane2

Actually, time ago i did swapped my low end Octane2 for an 1040 STFM, octane did seat around unused and was collecting dust, now i have much more fun (also) with the Atari (the octane gone to a good collector home). Casually playing some old games (immense fun), then attached to my Korg M1 with cuba...

Going from GIO to PCI - some loud thinking

Ok, yesterday i had that eureka moment, after taking some time to think about some other forum posts related to other stuff, that lead me in some other mind flow direction. I don't know if this is just right but i did some conceptual analysis that could proof to be one step closer to make GIO to PCI...

Re: Indigo2 R10k impact PSU

Great to know, your psu model is dual head, and according to the serial, the latest one they produced. Regarding to this: http://techpubs.sgi.com/library/manuals/3000/007-3301-001/pdf/007-3301-001.pdf, one can have: Solid/Solid, Solid/High, and Solid/Maximum combination in dual head config, so i'mak...

Re: Indigo2 R10k impact PSU

Interesting reading, i support the idea to at least barely get the power up and shutdown sequence and signals that control those procedures. My long term plan is to completely remove the old psu and put something brand new inside, although modern ATX psu's are more larger and would'n fit inside orig...

Re: WTB: Max Impact Graphics for Indigo2

If you still need texturing, and you picked the Indigo2 as your choice, maybe High Impact will do, not as fast as max but still faster than solid, and can do texturing, should be budget friendlier than max, generates less heat, eats less power.

Re: *** MaxIMPACT Graphics Boards ***

I don't aim them at hobbyists. ;) I currently act as support for a couple of airforce training setups where they're still used. Pity it isn't possible to respin the tech in a modern shrunk process, stick it on a single chip card (but with the same I/O ports), allow for Max + many options. Oh well. ...

Re: For Sale: SGI Indy maxed out

Being late to the cooler party. There are several versions of the Indy R5000 180Mhz SC module. I don't know the exact serials, but you will know the difference in general by looking the edge of the aluminium cooler box. If it has a fan - or is supposed to have one - the cooler is shorter and it does...

Re: an observation

I work with both mercurial and git, they're almost the same from user perspective, for eg. I miss something like git stash on hg, for those nice moments when you screw all things up, and reseting to head would make them even worse.

Re: Single CPU SGI with easiest to fool RAM limit?

This is quite interesting topic, and quite intesting question. I'm intersted also in emulating sgi mips/irix, and when i have time i'm doing a lot of research and learning about from the available documentation and existing projects. If you take for example one simple scale from 1 - 1000, where 1 is...

Re: IRIX simulation software

Quite surprisingly no one mentioned the real classic http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SGI_Dogfight, i think i spent many hours, days and nights flying above flat shaded grounds, quite rudimental, real retro slam back, but fun == endless.. any standard Irix instalation includes it, watch for the demos ...
