Re: Dubious Tezro on ebay (certainly not mine!)

Well hey, congrats on baggin' it! :D

Let us know how it goes...

I bought my Tezro locally but I had to wait many years for one to pop up, it was worth it though, the skins are scratch-free mint... :)

Re: Having trouble understanding the man page for VkSubProcess

I'll take a look at this when I get home tonight. The reason Viewkit's manpages are such total crap is because it was never supposed to be coded by hand, developers were supposed to use rapidapp, and then when they deprecated rapidapp they were supposed to switch to BX Pro. At that point SGI handed ...

Re: How do I fix this?! >:(

I've never used it but according to the manpage luit should be able to solve this: If you are running in a UTF-8 locale but need to access a remote machine that doesn't support UTF-8, luit can adapt the remote output to your terminal: $ LC_ALL=fr_FR luit ssh legacy-machine

Re: Is it Solaris 1.0 ?

According to Bill Calkins' "History of Solaris," the last release of BSD-based SunOS was 4.1.4, the first Solaris release (he doesn't mention a version number) was based on SVR4:

Re: Sunfire v880

Yup! My bad, I just checked and the one in mine is an XVR-1200... :| Maybe you're dreaming of an XVR-2500 within your Blade 2.5k. ;-) But this was the best with Sun and graphics: in sum all manageable. :D What's really embarrassing is that I actually bought that XVR-1200 off the bay , when I first ...

As Irinikus wrote already, you're talking about the XVR-1200. ;-)

Re: Sunfire v880

I've got an XVR-2500 in my Sun Blade 2500 and I like it a lot, it holds up really well in 3D performance compared to the V12s in my Octane2 and Tezro but it's a little bit slower at scrolling 2D in really busy pages, for example a complicated Rose model. Basically it lags a bit more than the V12, bu...

So Mr. Legacy continues to smear people. Something tells me he's really mentally ill and probably needs a lobotomy to return to normal.

Re: X11/Graphics Trouble Indigo2

Actually running startx, or startgfx or the like will just give me a black screen. Do you have to power cycle the system to recover it from this black screen? I wonder if you could telnet in from another host and see if Xsgi is running when it's in blackscreen mode (my guess is that it is), then yo...

Re: X11/Graphics Trouble Indigo2

Well unfortunately, on GR2 graphics (this is according to the setmon manpage) setmon doesn't work unless the xserver (Xsgi) is already running.

Re: IRIX Source code

? MIPSpro was more or less open sourced! Well, that means they yanked out all those pesky old MIPS bits, bolted on a shiny IA64 back end, and replaced the front end (licensed from EDG compiler group) and replaced it with GCC equivalent. It was called Pro64 , later Open64. People added x86-64, and e...
