Re: Turning your back on windows

When Slackware first came out it was so bare-bones that if you wanted to use anything that was at all useful you had no option but to download and compile it yourself. Now Slackware comes with everything but the kitchen sink. After every upgrade it takes me days to remove all the junk I'll never use...

Re: What extremely rare (non-prototype) computers do you wish you could find?

Was it the Onyx? I thought it was the Crimson. Eh, I could be wrong about that. It's been a while. It was indeed based on the Onyx and the RealityEngine graphics system! Ha! We have two weeks of spring now, thanks to climate change. I've been to Alaska in every month of the year with the exception ...

Wait; you're leaving Wasilla? But it's paradise! (For one week in the spring and one week in the fall)... ;)

Re: Turning your back on windows

Well, and as I'm fond of pointing out, I use the so-far systemd-less Slackware, both on my main workstation and on my firewall, which both run kernels I configured and compiled myself, and my firewall runs iptables with a configuration script that I wrote myself. Obviously there's no way to really k...

Re: Octane2, R14000, 2GB

Wow, nice! Front side skins are mint, somebody took good care of this baby. Makes you wonder why they couldn't keep track of the front door. Last I looked Octane drive trays were still plentiful on the auction sites. Anyway, great find, congrats!

Re: Was this PCI-X card used in SGI Flame/Smoke systems ?

If you follow the rather labyrinthine branch of threads spawned by that post it looks like links to a couple of potential driver files are provided, perhaps we can get smj or BSDero to weigh in on their subsequent experience with that board...

Re: Was this PCI-X card used in SGI Flame/Smoke systems ?

I had another attempt today, but no joy, drivers installed, but not showing. It does though show something on PCI 5 PCI Adapter ID (vendor 4165, device 51297) pci slot 5 But that's it. It is definitely a DM12. smj has one of those! He references it in this post: http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic...

Re: How to play Audio CD's on an Indy ?

What ripper software did you use? And what platform did you rip them on? I've never had a problem playing regular (i.e. commercially bought) audio CDs on my Octane using an external Teac but to the best of my recollection I've never tried playing a CD that had been ripped.
