Re: IRIX Source code

You guys are awesome! I've submitted exactly one patch to the Linux kernel, to the hwmon code to fix a call to a deprecated function. Extremely trivial patch that worked perfectly, it removed the call to the deprecated function and replaced it with a call to the function that replaced the deprecated...

Went to reinstall my system today and found my ancient Teac CD ROM is now suffering from the infamous IRIX "open door" syndrome.

Re: Archiver 0.1 - IRIX/IMD GUI for tar.

For what it's worth (not much), this is what I've got so far for subclassing VkSubProcess, I can instantiate an object of the derived class but the compiler's telling me it doesn't have a create() function, which according to the manpage it should have. Not helpful but here it is (note call to creat...

So Goetz, I'm assuming when you use the file -> open pulldown on your compiled version it doesn't crash? My system is obviously borked... :|

Re: Archiver 0.1 - IRIX/IMD GUI for tar.

just took the 0.3 for a ride and it built fine with 7.4.4. however i had to remove a few linker flags because you seem to add a lot of libs that you don't even use. one of them i didn't have installed so i tried cutting that down ... without problems. With that in mind I tried the same thing with t...

Re: Archiver 0.1 - IRIX/IMD GUI for tar.

I actually don't have a /usr/include/Xm symlink on my system, so I had to add -I/usr/Motif-2.1/include to the Makefile, but compiling it to link against Motif-1.2 I'm getting the same result: Process 1550: Stopped on signal SIGBUS: Bus error (default) XmStringCopy(<stripped>) ["XmString.c"...

Ah crap, I found where it's crashing on mine, unfortunately it's in libXm, specifically in XmStringCopy() on line 6644 of XmString.c, what version of Motif are you using? On mine it's 2.1.32, line 97 in Xm.h: #define XmVERSION_STRING "@(#)Motif Version 2.1.32"

Re: Making music with PureData on Octane 2

Got the monitor and a bunch of accessories from a guy I work with. He had two Indis, a green Octane, and a Crimson just sitting in a barn from back in 1999 when he was an intern at SGI. Would that be the SGI on Blue Water Road in Eagan? It's still there but it's got a Hewlett Packard Enterprise sig...

Re: Article: The Coming Software Apocalypse

I have devices that control lighting, security cameras and power switching. They have internal APIs and sit on the non-routable network. I manipulate them through scripts I write and maintain myself. Here's an example: http://www.floodgap.com/software/huepl/ Dude, this is BRIL! Now I'll h...

Okay, in line 180 of App.C, delete app->output this is deleting an object of a polymorphic class (VkNameList) which has a non-virtual destructor, that's an oops: https://www.securecoding.cert.org/confluence/display/cplusplus/OOP52-CPP.+Do+not+delete+a+polymorphic+object+without+a+virtual+destructor

I've had it on my to-do list to scrub the disk on this thing and start over fresh ever since I bought it 10 years ago. I'll have to do some searching on that representation size error, I've never seen that before.
