Re: SoftImage 3D 4.0 Install Help ?

no, because SI 3D was used from 1989 to 2009, XSI has been in the market for years, companies do not even care about it, games, movies, series, whatever, this software is still used in Japan and other teams. Amazing things were done before by skilled people but they also had to work around the limi...

Re: SoftImage 3D 4.0 Install Help ?

It would not make much sense as oldschool SGI systems are now mostly hobby computers and pouring money to emulation just to run old software is not the best business plan. Company should look and invest into future and not the past. Also hardware/software have all evolved and today everything can be...

Re: your latest purchase

I got carried away and bought some more ZX Spectrum stuff. ZX Evolution rev. C was feeling lonely, so now it has couple friends to keep it company. Pentagon 2.666le board and ZX Evolution rev. B are my newest toys. SpeccyStuff.jpg Pentagon 2.666le inside tower case and ZX Evolution rev. C on top of ...

Re: your latest purchase

The prior owner did indeed remove the batteries before storage. I haven't gone through all the software but there is quite a lot of it, including a copy of Virtual Acorn. Unfortunately neither system is booting right now (the PSU in the Iyonix seems okay, but nothing starts up). PSUs often a culpri...

Re: How can Apple reclaim its dominance over PC-based workstations?

Comparison is fair. Whole point is that current Mac Pro is limited system without much upgrade potential. There would be very little point to use use similar configuration and same software for both systems as the test results would then be identical. If you put exactly the same components on differ...

Re: How can Apple reclaim its dominance over PC-based workstations?

In my opinion current Apple computer products are not interesting at all, as those are just standard PC-systems and there is nothing that warrants buying those instead of any other PC. If I wanted a computer with standard parts picked straight from the store self, I could build it myself and have it...

Re: your latest purchase

My previous 3 cars were Peugeot and there never was any problems with rust on any of them, and my current car is tiny Citroen Saxo also practically no rust for a older car like that. I bought the Citroen while ago to serve as a cheap transport to workplace as I have daily 1 hour drive to work and an...

Re: your latest purchase

This one: msx.jpg Philips NMS 8250 modded to MSX2+ and second drive added. (Switch on the back to select msx2 or msx2+ mode.) This was unused close to 10 years in the closet and the old battery was not keeping time anymore, so I decided to remove it to be on safe side. battery.jpg Did not actually l...

Re: your latest purchase

Scart to HDMI converter.

After that thing arrives, the good old msx2+ will come out from the closet and will again get some use it deserves.

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

Text can be written in any text editor, but for formatting the document and applying styles I would always use actual word processing or DTP application. Generally is better to use software designed for normal people and forget everything else, as life is too short for masochist editors needing 11 f...

Not feel like sleeping yet, so watching Jurassic Park from television and playing with Polybrush sculpting tools. Is pretty good for shaping the general form after some practice.

Looks more like Ford Maverick than the Cortina. I had -75 Ford Capri once, so have soft spot for old Fords.

American muscle cars look great but are really only fast on straight road.

Re: What is your favorite thing about messing with old computers?

What? RISCiX on the Archimedes was a terrible idea, irrespective of the cost. It's an 8 MHz machine with a 3.5" ST-412 drive (so 60 MB is about as big as you can go), a 4MB maximum RAM capacity, a framebuffer that steals memory bandwidth, and a 32k page size. The situation is barely improved w...

Re: What is your favorite thing about messing with old computers?

My favourite thing has to be, that after 20-30 years I can finally afford those. Truth is that everything was much more fun when I was a child and microcomputers ruled the world. Now children play with mobile phones and tablets, but they will never experience that magical time when computers were fu...
