How to get in touch with a MicroVAX

Hello Nekochan. Long time, no post. A while ago I found a MicroVAX 3100-40 and two VT520s in a skip. The terminals are fine and display a lovely, lovely green. I'd like to see if I can get the VAX running since I've never used one. It starts up and gives a green light on the front, but I've no idea ...

Re: Good quiet keyboards?

I'd rather get new co-workers than a new keyboard - Seriously, every time I set down with my Apple Extended II and type my username and password, I let out a satisfied sigh. The joy of a good keyboard is second to very little (that happens in the office, at least).

As long as it's resting on the edges I think it'll hold quite a bit. It is mostly metal, after all...

Re: Application seen as a document

More likely it's been zapped. This happens when the file gets handled by anything which isn't aware of forks. Are you sure whatever you used to archive to tape is fork savvy?

There's no way to recover from it, sadly. Basically half the file's gone.

Re: Learning Spanish?

I believe GeneratriX was referring to the bastardization of the pronunciation the word "Mexico" and under that context he is correct. There is a clear distinction between "correct" and "accepted." I had one point and one point only, which was in response to the stateme...

Re: Learning Spanish?

We were discussing the Spanish pronunciation of the word Mexico, because there are some people interested in learning Spanish . I have no #@$@ clue why you decided to go in that tangent. Err - It is known that the pronunciation "Méksico" is uncorrect, either in english, spanish, or castil...

Re: Learning Spanish?

Unlike other languages, Spanish is tightly regulated by a central entity (The Royal Spanish Language Academy). Languages belong to the people who speak them. There's no right and wrong in language, only convention and unspoken agreements. I'm not really sure how the existence of a Spanish GESPRAPO ...

Re: Learning Spanish?

The word Mexico in English might be a loan from Spanish (originally it's from Aztec/Nawatl AFAIK) but to say that the pronunciation "meksiko" is incorrect is completely preposterous. I call my country Danmark in my own language, but naturally when speaking English it's Denmark, and when I ...

Re: Another sgi O2/Gentoo

I would hate to have the same people that jerk off to linux-lite-brite working on the code path controlling the elevator i'm in, or the car i drive. there's a reason we draw the distinction between grown ups, and children or valuable citizens and the slack jawed village idiot; they know what is use...

Funny you should say that - ever tried doing an ebay.de search for SGI?
