Re: Non-inkjet Color Printer Recommendations??

I'm using a Brother HL-3170CDW, does colour laser with duplex, PostScript, AirPrint, wifi, ethernet, the works. Can emulate an HP LaserJet 4 if you're on an OS with driver problems. It's colour, takes about 20ish minutes to do 500 b&w pages. Brother stuff is cheap but not nasty, they've been gho...

Re: AMIX on WinUAE now boots!

There's one caveat to FS-UAE: it needs the qemu-uae package to do networking. And that is one difficult to build package. I've tried on OpenBSD and gotten nowhere... Meanwhile, we're trying to get the Motif libs off the Atari SysVR4 image that's been recovered, since the one for AMIX was bundled onl...

Re: NeXT vs Sun

It's not so much Obj-C than the frameworks NeXT provided, the Project Maker and the Interface Builder, which back when this video was made, sped up development massively. On SunOS there wasn't anything simlar, plus you had to deal with Xt / Xlib as well as your choice of OpenLook or whatever it was ...

Re: AMIX on WinUAE now boots!

FS-UAE 2.6 series has been released some time ago, and it offers the MMU+FPU emulation at last, plus just about every option needed for AMIX to run, since it's based on WinUAE 3.1's core (2.4 was on 2.5). You should now be able to emulate AMIX on any *NIX with a decent uptodate port tree!

Re: a loonix-irix queery

FreeBSD's msdosfs supports FAT32, no worries there. It's a flag when mounting the device. I imagine XFS got dropped from v10 because of the lack of maintainers... http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=mount_msdosfs&sektion=8&apropos=0&manpath=FreeBSD+10.1-RELEASE UFS2 and FFS are both...

Re: Trying to "Hack" Into an SGI Octane

Linux should be able to mount those XFS partitions and then you can aim john the ripper at the passwd file in last recourse. OS X can't mount XFS partitions.

Also when you boot the install media, when the graphical Windows 2000 screen appears, press F5 to select the SGI HAL.

I'd check British expat sites for Italy, there may be people going back and forth to the UK once a week or month to import foodstuffs and other things Brits crave abroad. Might be able to bring it back for you.

We know you're in Italy so it's shipping in Euros right? Is that a Phobos G130 (EISA) or G160(GIO64) in it?

I've an Indigo2/R10K, never found it snappy at all. I was quite disappointed when I got in circa 2002.

Re: RAR rant

The guy who wrote lzx got hired by Microsoft and thus CABs used lzx compression. RAR also got traction for double compression as zip.rar (a bit like tar.gz) to guarantee less invalid results when fusing archives back together.

You can restore the black hole icon and the rest to the original 1.x ones via a package available on the software archive sites ( nextcomputers.org has it for ex.).
