Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

HP 9000 D350 with AutoRAID and UPS. ;) Also the 11/23 pooped itself while troubleshooting some card assignment issues. I can verify the chassis is still healthy if I put in my 11/73 boardset but now the 11/23 throws an error about a ROM issue and I can't even seem to jumper out the onboard bootstrap...

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

Spent the day first admiring the new four camera setup I installed, plus a PTZ camera that's way up on the antenna mast so I can see clean across the valley. CGS_7640.JPG CGS_7641.JPG First problem: When it gets warm outside the PTZ camera starts consuming more power than the DC-DC regulator in the ...

Re: Heads up: Photobucket is nuking its reason to live

It seems we are starting to discover there's also a lot of hosted content that was being used in sites like Amazon or ebay and it's pissing everyone off that they now have to go back and rehost everything. [...] What were they thinking?? Maybe they realized that hosting everyone's web shop for free...

Re: Heads up: Photobucket is nuking its reason to live

Oh man, Photobucket really kicked up a storm. It seems we are starting to discover there's also a lot of hosted content that was being used in sites like Amazon or ebay and it's pissing everyone off that they now have to go back and rehost everything. It's gotten so big even the BBC has caught wind ...

Re: Heads up: Photobucket is nuking its reason to live

I'm really sorry so many of my posts used Photobucket for image attachments. I just never expected them to be so suicidial in the end.

Heads up: Photobucket is nuking its reason to live

Just a heads up, as of last night Photobucket updated their Terms of Service and account tiering. It has broken down to under the new terms hotlinking of hosted images is forbidden (and they will break links as they come across them) and the Premium account which enables hotlinking has gone up to ab...

Oil burning furnaces have a nice transformer that sits on top and generates a few thousand volts for the arc gap.

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

Keeping the creativity ball rolling. So today while working on the backlights of a 32" LCD panel I looked at one of the broken tubes and wondered if I could melt the jagged end with my butane torch. I could. I made a straw once I fed a pipe cleaner through it. Then I wondered if I could shape t...

I just photographed the total bajeesus out of a UCC model 1035 terminal that uses a Selectric II with a fair number of hacks.

Re: your latest purchase

I did it again. I splurged $100 and bought an arcade cabinet I can't store at home, so it's being "loaned" to the local Makerspace. CGS_7543.jpg CGS_7544.jpg It doesn't have the original game installed and there are a number of other modifications. In fact, I can't tell WHAT game is instal...

This is something more out of idle curiosity. It seems originally it was only for Tru64 however someone rather recently ported it to Linux. The documentation to do so is available here . Without sitting in front of a 64-bit machine myself (I only have the O2 up at the moment) it seems all you need i...

HP Disk Modules

I have an A3515A Intelligent disk array and I've noticed it uses the same style sleds as my D350. They seem to come in both LVD and HVD flavours, marked with a yellow or purple SD or DF sticker on the front of the module and either SE or DF stamped on the PCB inside (but the components on both types...

Re: your latest purchase

I mean, 50 hours does not sound like much but then I recall most of my prints go under for 15-45 seconds. Longer if I'm doing something crazy. It will still take a while to reach 50 hours.
