Re: PowerMac G5 - Chimes, but no display

Can you hear it trying to boot from the hard drive?
Optionally, if you power it on and leave it, do the fans eventually ramp up to full tilt?

Re: info about PowerMacs

68kmla.org is fairly active. Despite the name, the PowerPC macs get attention there Word of warning: There's a layer of pretentiousness to the moderators. I called it quits after moderation included shilling third party products to the point they couldn't even follow their own rules. Other than tha...

Re: Personal Iris power supply fuses

I seem to recall those power supplies failing was a thing for many years. There are procedures to substitute an ATX power supply. I recapped mine back in 2006 or 2007.

One day I'll be able to afford my own place and when that day comes be damned, if the services are all dead I still want my 12' mesh dish on the roof.

WeirdStuff Warehouse is closing Sunday April 8

IF you are ANYWHERE in proximity to 384 W Caribbean Dr, Sunnyvale, California, this weekend is your last chance to go to the greatest used computer and electronics store, ever. Regretfully, the property has been purchased and it looks like management is eying retirement after many years of good busi...

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

Cleaning up my bench after preparing a VideoCipher II+ module for long term storage. For those who don't remember what this was, back in the late 80's and 90's when scrambling of satellite TV signals became commonplace (because everyone was taking a hit from those "free" satellite TV kits ...

Re: Apple to stop using Intel processors in Macs, reports say

well apple are not stupid. if they didn't think they had an advantage by the time this will be on sale they wouldn't do it This is a company who thought they were bold by making a cellphone without a headphone jack and a mouse you can't use while charging. Apple may be smart in that they know how t...

I'm dreaming here, but the Macintosh source code for System Shock's game engine was made public today.

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

It bothers me how nicely RL02 packs stack but the manual says DO NOT stack them like that and instead use appropriate vertical carrier frames. Well I get to challenge my Highschool woodshop skills again. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a166/ballsandy/Computer%20related/59DA0884.jpg http://i11.phot...

Re: Personal Iris power supply fuses

Well one fuse is rated 250V 10A and be found on Digikey as 507-1256-ND. the other is rated 6A 250V and can also be found in Digikey as 283-2636-ND.

I have to ask though. What the heck happened to cause both fuses to blow?

Re: NUMA && the kind of software able to take advantage of it

Going from my experience with the 200 and 2000 series Origins, once the cabling is properly attached the hardware boost is pretty transparent to the software. Irix just sees a machine with a ton more available resources than usual. Anything coded or released with support for multiprocessing or just ...

Indeed I have the Cherokee. Thank you for confirming that the PSU comes out via the back. Considering where I have the machine installed accessing the side is NOT an easy task. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a166/ballsandy/Computer%20related/IMG_9853.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a166/bal...

Crimson Power Supply - Removal

My Crimson has been sidelined for several years after it was determined powering it up would cause the 1500W PSU to immediately fail because of capacitor problems. I got some slack time at work coming up and am thinking of pulling it out and taking it in. I seem to recall someone here wrote up the p...
