Re: your latest purchase

I just bought a cheap and nasty PTZ camera off ebay. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Mini-Outdoor-AHD-960P-CCTV-3X-Optical-Zoom-PTZ-Security-Camera-Speed-Dome-RS485/391842366335?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 It was something like $80CDN, I'm willing to bet it's all plastic ...

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

After plunking down $200 for ONE GODDAMN CABLE I spent today reassembling my Sony PMW-EX3 that has been partially dismantled for a little over a year as I rebuilt the broken upper handle assembly and found a replacement to one goddamn cable (see above $200 cable) (price in USD, before taxes and ship...

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

I've wanted a monitor to watch my CCTV without leaving my desk but I didn't want to use one of the multiple displays I already have because running it 24/7 will either nuke the backlights or burn the tube in. You know, so I can get at least an idea how many federal agents are at the door before they...

I haven't made it to the Big Red as of yet and, unfortunately, hamei and I are no longer on speaking terms. :(

Him and I used to talk form time to time but on grounds, I have not heard from him in almost a year.

Re: Broken IO6-G bought on eBay

The missing component is indeed a fuse. It looks strikingly like a Polyswitch resettable fuse.
My guess is that it and the cap would of been part of the circuit for the voltage regulator immediately next to them.

Re: Onyx rack start-up problem

I know that in the past there was speculation that problems would start to arise once the Dallas NVRAM module on the system controller had its battery go flat. I've powered my machine up as a paranoid check (it disabled a CPU but that's not a problem right now) and mine still seems to be happy. If t...

Re: Installing on a PA-RISC D350

aaaaaaaaaand.....it kinda installed. CGS_7763.JPG ...but it still seems to boot up to a shell and a running system. Couple of weird things though, like it saw the EISA mux card but not the 10/100 EISA card (yes, it's the HP one) or CDE doesn't come up on the video head but I think that is because I ...

Re: Installing on a PA-RISC D350

Yep. that seemed to do it. I"m reading through https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01962187 right now as a fresh install cranks away. I had to use the September 2005 discs as the 2006 set would just error out. Edited: lmao, why is OBSOLESCENCE an optional package?

Installing on a PA-RISC D350

It's taken me ten years to reach this point but I am FINALLY in a position where I am good to bring up the system that has been languishing in storage for 1/3 of my life. I've never really sat down and gotten familiar with HP-UX or how the PROM environment works so I did that this morning for a bit ...

Re: your latest purchase

I found me a second Canon A1 Digital. Now I have two matched cameras for my stereoscopic tripod. Came in an aftermarket bag with all the necessary stuff like manuals, cabling, (dead) batteries, straps, random tape of Anon's first birthday and the AC adapter, plus the optional shotgun microphone. Lik...

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

In an effort to reduce the amount of racket going up through my workshop ceiling and into the dining room above I have installed a buttload of foam panelling. CGS_7750.JPG I had to spray it all with a bitterant in the hopes the mice don't start making a home out of it. I cann't get the taste off my ...

Re: CRT Projector for Bedroom Entertainment Setup?

The one advantage I've found that the CRT units have over LCD and DLP units are that they are much better at resolution scaling. I can find the usual 1024x768, 1920x720 or 1920x1080 units(or units that totally say they are but they are TOTALLY scaling the hell out of something smaller) but they do r...

Re: An item is only ever worth what someone is willing to pay... :)

IIRC, the reason machines like the C65 fetch so much is that they are true limited production machines. They were all prototypes. Until now I was not aware a machine that not only worked (ALL the ASIC's were present and the ROMs would function) but was also as complete as this one even existed. When...
