Re: Which rack for the Origin 200s.

Get one form the first pictures. The others are more for telefon/switch/communication hardware and not for Servers. You'll get airfloor and overheating problems with such racks. Another problem is the deep of those racks. Newer Servers are 800mm and more in deep and with these kind of small racks y...

Which rack for the Origin 200s.

I already have a short 19" rack for the two Origin 300s, one Fibre array and an AlphaServer 800 5/500. I have a lot of other stuff (Origin 200 & Origin vault, the 21Gb SCSI S-VHS tape back up, my Ciprico 6500s (ATA RAID with SCSI extrenal interface), a couple of fibre arrays, etc..) pushed ...

Re: fleabay sellers, have to laugh ...

I have a DLink 24 port Gigabit switch, model DGS-1024D, a bit loud but nothing compared to an Octane or the Blade 1000.

The power supply failed and Dlink fixed it under warranty and returned it to me in under 24 hours.

Re: for compiler junkies ....

I used the DEC Alpha WindowsNT Visual C++ compiler.
The experience sucked a little... but my memories from the mid 1990s are fading a little by now.

WindowsNT on MIPS might have been different.

Re: Post yer desktop(s)!

I envy your collection of Maya books, Regan! You must be a guru by now :) Thanks. Not quite. I'm impressed by your 3DS Max Christmas 2000 short. All the books in the world are no match for experience. He said, " Don't get really good at sheep shearing for 10 years or 10,000 sheep.". I'll ...

Re: Irix CNC software for hobby purposes ?

The site I used like when I went through my lets build a CNC machine phase: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/index.php There is no mention of SGI except a link to techpubs.sgi.com about printer specs. There is a bit about Linux stuff. I suggest a Linux based system from a PC built from various machines...

Re: Post yer desktop(s)!

I have more than one desk one along the windows looking at the trees and another in the corner. My desks look nothing like this (youtube video) now, I'll try to post a photo later but I am just putting stuff back together and haven't made a mess yet. So it is unnaturally clean. http://au.youtube.com...

The Fiat X1/9 is my favourite car of all time :) More cars with targa top should be made! I agree. More cars with targa top should be made! I loved my 300zx.. and a I found a 100 Yen coin in the console as I was cleaning it. It was this colour and looked like this.. nissan-300zx-yellow-1998.jpg I g...

Maybe this is more likely better in "SGI still used in hollywood" thread but the bonus disk of Star Wars Ep1...

This is probably what my Indigo2 looks like... I did it from memory while trying to avoid falling over power tools throughout the house and working on the house.

Model your SGI.

This may or may not go over well here but I thought why not model SGI in Maya or Blender and share the file.

A lot of people here can do much, much better.
I throw this out as a challenge: Model your SGI and show it to us in this thread.

Models must be produced with SGIs.

Re: New Indy user!

@ajerimez Thanks for the tips. Don't worry about my expectations. Somebody who used an Amiga 500 for all computer needs for the last 6 years has expectations about as low as you can get. (but I do have Lightwave 5.1 on my A500) I hope that I might get an Amiga 4000 soon-ish. I have seen books on Li...
