Re: What's so appealing about Amiga machines?

Sweet. I'll need to see if he'll ship to the USA.

Re: iPad 2

hmmm.. TUAW ( http://www.tuaw.com/2011/03/10/imovie-and-garageband-now-available-for-ipad/ ) says Garageband will run on ipad. i'm happy! GarageBand is running well enough on my iPad 1, and I just read, that if you use apple's enterprise iPhone/iPad configuration utility, you can get iMovie loaded ...

Re: iPad 2

I've never used one, but just search "capacitive stylus". Here is an example: http://boxwave-corporation.amazonwebstore.com/BoxWave-Capacitive-iPad-Stylus-Jet-Black/M/B000BUI76S.htm?traffic_src=froogle&utm_medium=CSE&utm_source=froogle If you want to do diagramming, take a look at ...

Re: iPad 2

Real world, moderate use of mine drops it to about 50% battery at the end of the day. Even with the heaviest use I have never had to recharge in the middle of the day. To manage that, I run the screen at 50% brightness, which is plenty bright for me everywhere but outdoors on a bright day.

Re: iPad 2

The new iPad would be awesome if I didn't already have an original iPad. The main upgrade I see is the speed (I never even use my cell camera--preferring my Nikon p6000) which is nice, but not enough app writers have built big complex apps that need more horses. Apple and Omnigroup seem to be the fe...

Re: 8 drives in an ultra 40

My plan at the moment is to run the first 4 drives as a RAIDZ1 of 3tb drives (or 2tb drive if I'm feeling cheap.) Down the road, I can add a second RAIDZ1. I'm grabbing a PCIe 8x SAS controller to run the main storage. I haven't decided whether one HBA is sufficient, or if I need to split the storag...

Re: 8 drives in an ultra 40

I'll get there eventually. Right now, the Ultra didn't come with any sleds, so I have some arriving in the next few days. Not Ultra 40 sleds, but from what I've read the server sleds work, but are a different color.

Yes. You need the foundation disks plus the most recent overlay you want to install.

8 drives in an ultra 40

So, in my quest to build a personal SAN, I bought a used Sun Ultra 40 (not an M2) to act as the storage server. The ultra 40 has 4 internal drive bays, and unlike the u40 m2, it doesn't officially support expanding to 8 internal drives. But, of course, that is what I want to do. All I have to go on ...

Re: Firefox performance and display issues on Octane2/6.5.30

Yeah, that redraw is weird. It makes me wonder what might be running that my be hindering redraw, though, honestly, even when firefox is behaving like a pig, it's only the contents of the window. The window frame, i.e. 4DWm, remains responsive. Is the CPU pegged when you have those problems?

Re: What's so appealing about Amiga machines?

I actually wend Atari before I went Amiga for one reason--MIDI. In fact Amiga's, while they had the MOD stuff, was never really very good at the MIDI/sequencer market. So I jumped to a Mac for MIDI and an Amiga for everything else. I still use a Mac for midi (ironically with Logic, which started lif...

Re: What's so appealing about Amiga machines?

The other amazing thing about the amiga is the community--crazy as they are sometimes, they are very self sufficient (they've been on their own since the early 90's, so they have a lot of practice.) As an example, I just noticed that you can get a USB board for your classic amiga. We can barely get ...

Re: New Nekochan Wiki!

It might be overkill, but you could always install a copy of media wiki locally. The main thing you would need is postgresql or mysql, as apache and php already exist in osx.

Re: Origin 2k with Impact Graphics

I'm not worried--hinv, gr_osview, gmake -j9, and everything else works fine. I have two 300mhz nodeboards (n1, n2) and two 400mhz nodeboards (n3,n4), and it only shows the four 300mhz CPUs. They are all flashed at the latest from 6.5.30 (something like 6.156, but I'm not sure.) I'll be posting a hin...

Re: Origin 2k with Impact Graphics

Interesting reading. There are more differences between the onyx desk side and my o2200 than I realized. Much less XIO for one. Has anyone ever seen the MXI Onyx in the wild, or only our little hacks?
