Re: Origin 3200 Video Options

I believe Harry Goldsholl (dhjj on the forum) recently had an X-Brick for sale. I don't know if he still has it or not, or if he's even still in the reseller business. The last time I talked to him, it sounded like he was trying to divest himself from it...

Ah yes. Off by 100 error. My memory was a little rusty. BL460's.

If you won't sell the RAM/cpus on ebay, would you at least sell them here? I personally have several systems that will happily take those 5600 series Xeons and the accompanying RAM...

Re: [Sydney/AU] HP blade servers with 48Gb to 144Gb RAM per blade, EMC & Clarion SAN

DL360's? We used those at my old job. I loved working with them. I kind of wish I had a c3000+blades for my home lab, but ain't nothing gonna get those babies across the pacific and into my basement :D What kind of networking modules did you have in your chassis? We used both the gbe2c's (rebranded ...

Thanks for the links, Recondas. I knew there was a pictorial somewhere, but I was posting from my phone, and I had a hell of a time finding it :D

Re: Origin 3200 Power Supply

The power supply units don't care. They will run off either voltage. The issue is that there is a controller in the power bay that monitors the input voltage, and if it's out of spec, the power bay won't bring the individual power supplies up. It's been a really long time since I had my 3200, but yo...

Re: Origin 3200 Power Supply

Yes and no. From the factory, the power bay is configured to require 240 to operate. There is a jumper in the power bay that you can swap to change the acceptable voltage range to 120. I don't remember the details, but I do remember that it didn't take much searching once you get the cover off. Shou...

Re: Indy or O2 for hostile-heat environment

Getting out my popcorn... But O/T: I have a gaggle of O2's now, with various CPU spec, PSUs in various conditions, etc. Just one data point that I can offer is that I had a PSU that caused my r7k 350 Mhz CPU to boot infrequently, if at all, but swapping the PSU for a different one resulted in a 100%...

Interesting Washington State Surplus Doo-Dads

I was browsing through the eBay store of the Washington State Surplus people down in Pasco, WA. I'm maybe headed south to watch the eclipse, and when I told the wife that "Pasco is on the way, they might have some interesting gear", she didn't immediately divorce/murder me. Anyway, I saw a...

Re: SGI Octane: IRIX always outputs to serial terminal

If the previous owner installed Irix on that machine and the graphics board was not showing up due to a poor connection to the frontplane or a dead graphics board, I don't believe the installer would include the graphics subsystem. Could explain why Irix is lacking the required drivers. Somebody cor...

Your graphics board is conspicuously absent from your hinv. Try re-seating the board.

Re: WTB skins/plastics

If anyone at SGI had a conscience they would release the models for all their skins so we could start making our own replacements. But nooooo, they will never do that because we might put SGI logos or (worse) funky non-SGI logos on our homemade skins, and as a result SGI might be made to look bad.....

That Octane 1.5 was my very first SGI. I kinda miss it, but unfortunately I wouldn't even have anything to do with it other than display it. I hope it goes to a good home!

Challenge XL Vault specs

So a couple of Challenge XL Vaults popped up on craigslist for free...anybody know if they will accommodate standard sized rackmount gear? Round mounting holes or square? Basically wondering if it's worth my time to hook up my trailer and drive into the city to get one or both of them...assuming the...

Re: The Problem with Apple

I choose Apple hardware specifically because I don't have to dick around with it. And as far as "expandability" goes, who stores more than a few dozen gigabytes of data locally anymore? I can't remember the last time I filled up my laptop's SSD. I've got my music collection, and that's abo...
