Re: WTB: Powerbook G4, 12in / 1.5GHz

MrBill - Thanks for the offer, it is tempting, but I will wait and see how the one from itsvince725 does. Refurbishing an old pile of Macs is also tempting, but the truth is that I have more important things to do with my time. Now, if you see an original Macintosh Portable, I am interested.

WTB: Powerbook G4, 12in / 1.5GHz

I am looking for a 12in 1.5GHz Powerbook G4. At the moment I am willing to pay between $100 and $200, depending on condition and specs. Fully working is preferable, though I would also consider one with a bad logic board and/or hard drive if the price is under $100. I don't need much in the way of e...

Quantum DLT Mug with comic

Years ago I picked up with a Quantum DLT promotional mug 2nd hand. On it is a comic with one guy having dogs sniffing through some papers. The other guy is saying "There's got to be a better way to find last year's financials." On the opposite side of the mug says Quantum DLT tape Media. W...

Re: Downtime

Great to see it back up! After checking in and getting a server not found error I assumed the site had shutdown for good. I am glad to hear that isn't the case.

I need a *known good* mini DVI adapter for my Powerbook G4 (newer 12in). Does anyone have an extra around?

Thanks!

Re: Spanish audio practice

Thanks, robespierre! That gives me some more stuff when have time for Spanish videos. As for audio while driving, I will just see how the various Spanish stuff I find online works out. I suspect that if I keep looking I can find something. And it occurs to me that I should try telling Google that I ...

Re: Spanish audio practice

Quite the dichotomy you are portraying there, but there is more to choose from than "ivory tower" or trashy soap. The variety of movies in the US is far greater, and I am sure Hispanic movies also offer a large variety. Thinking that any one genre will provide a large insight into a foreig...

Re: Spanish audio practice

Thanks for the links. I will check into them. But, as suggested, books on tape are a lot closer to what I am looking for. "Teevee and movies are probly better." Spanish movies, preferably interesting and originally in Spanish, are already on the to get and to do list. Some of my DVDs have ...

Spanish audio practice

Having returned to the US, I am not having a so easy time practicing Spanish. One thing I am looking for is Spanish audio books, or equivalent. At my current level something clearly pronounced is a lot better for practice (yes, I will move on to harder stuff as appropriate). I thought I would ask ar...

Re: New laptop thoughts

PymbleSoftware - Thanks for the notes! That gives some idea. For some purposes the cloud is a good idea. However, I agree with the others in not trusting any of the mega-corps with their stuff. Actually, I also don't trust the pico-corps with it either, but they are far less likely to cause problems...

Re: WTB: 8088 chips

Hummm, that could be worth it. Though I would need to go re-figure out the paypal address verification since it has changed since I last used ebay. Thankfully it looks like I got things working with some spare parts that came in today. But I still might grab some more spares.

Re: Mac Pro 2013

Off hand, it looks to be rather sad for a top end computer. It does a lot better as a cool looking and somewhat powerful computer with neat-O cooling. Personally, I think top end/pro desktops should offer a minimum of 4 processor chips, each with as many cores as the manufacture offers. 8 would be b...

Re: New laptop thoughts

OK, I will have to take a much closer look at the latest mac OS to decide. I don't mind simple warnings for programs from unknown publishers and the like, if you can acknowledge them and then do what you want. That is a (very small) help in keeping out unwanted crud. And I can manage saying "No...
