Re: Suns UltraSPARC workstation line...

Surely a SPARC based workstation is needed for application development.

But maybe not. :(

Sun Stuff Sydney, Australia

Sun External Tape Drive PN 599-2107-01 includes DDS3 tape drive. $25 It powers up and you can eject tapes but I don't have SCSI cables to test it further. Would be suitable for external CD/DVD drive for an Octane etc NEC CD3010A CD drive. $20 Bootable under IRIX, I've used it for IRIX installs on an...

Apple Company Store

Talking with a co-worker today we couldn't work out why the official apple stores don't sell general Apple branded gear. They would make a killing selling to suckers like us. So searching around we found the following link on the apple site to the Apple Company Store. http://www.apple.com/comp...

Re: Ultra10 panic

Some swapping and reseating of RAM looks like it fixed the problem.
It's been running 24x7 since then without issue.

Ultra10 panic

I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on the following error message, from my Sun Ultra10. Some digging around on the internet, hasn't really narrowed the options. It's either the CPU, RAM or Motherboard. I've tried re-seating the RAM, moving it around and pulling different pairs out to ...

Re: Leopard on G4 boxes

Just did an install of Leopard on my PowerBook G4 1.67Mhz w 2Gb RAM. It seems to be as zippy as Tiger was. Yay. The only issue I am having is with Spaces taking me back to the 'space' where a particular application is open. eg to open a new window in Safari, I have to go back to the space with it op...

Not sure about when adding a processor, but try a 'boot -r' at the OpenBoot Prompt.

Seems like bootable ZFS is here,

Re: MB or MBP?

I'm going through a similar discussion with myself about MB or MBP? On one hand I can just replace my PowerBook with a high spec'd MacBookPro But if I go a MacBook, I can blow the rest on a 23' Cinema Display. Nice decisions to have to make. I'm leaning towards the MBP for the screen and CPU g...

Re: ROSS CPU and PROM question (SS20)

Oh, and I read somwhere that you can't mix CPU-boards of different speed. Does that apply to both superSPARC and hyperSPARC modules or is that some inherent limitation in the Prom? /Matt From my research when I had a SS20, you couldn't mix modules that were cache-less but certain other modules were...
