Re: Houdini v4.0.4 glitches?

Houdini 4 dates back to 1999 (the same time Irix 6.5 was released) but was probably optimized for 6.2. So the combo Octane/Irix 6.5 might be the problem. The software's documentation is silent about any incompatibilities/problems. I do own an Indigo2 Extreme, but it's not an impact (OpenGL native) m...

Re: Houdini v4.0.4 glitches?

I think the TRAM only allows you to have a faster preview of a textured model, which is otherwise possible but VEEERY SLOW. I noticed lots of inconsistencies when using the different tools of that version (4.0.4). A few of them: - when I unlock a SOP, it makes my model and the associated geometry di...

Re: Irix/Mac OS X rlogin/rsh connection

OK thanks a lot. When I tried rlogin from the Octane it did not work in the first place. Searching the Apple support site I found that the /etc/inetd.conf had to be modified on the iBook in order to allow rlogin/rsh connections (by uncommenting two lines). Should be all OK now.

Re: Irix/Mac OS X rlogin/rsh connection

The network chkconfig flag is on, the .rhosts and /etc/hosts.equiv files are correctly setup on both machines, so I guess I'll just have to try. I was just wondering if the two machines had to share the same operating system (Irix) or if it was possible to mix Mac OS X and Irix

Irix/Mac OS X rlogin/rsh connection

Hi, I’d like to install an application on an SGI Octane (Irix 6.5). Since the Octane lacks a CDROM drive, I’m planning to make an Apple iBook (Mac OS 10.2) the “install server”, by mounting the application’s CD on it. As Mac OS X and Irix are both unixes, I would then use the rlogin/rsh commands to ...

Re: Houdini v4.0.4 glitches?

thanks for the tips. No TRAM in my Octane. I've tried all the options but still have the same problem. I'll try again

Houdini v4.0.4 glitches?

Hi, I recently installed Houdini 4.0.4 (Octane SE under Irix 6.5) and had some problems with it: objects disappearing after a model/transform operation (and not to be found again) or still rendering in wireframe despite the “shaded” option being checked. Has someone ever had issues using that versio...

V6 compatibility with SI3D, PowerAnimator and Houdini????

Hi, I'm planning on buying an Sgi Octane with V6 graphics. It will be hooked to a Sgi GDM5011P monitor (max resolution = 1600x1280). Are there any problems running old 3D apps (mainly Alias/PowerAnimator, Softimage3D, and Houdini 4.x-5.x) with this graphics adapter? Has anyone tried these apps with ...

Re: Uncomfortable Softimage|3D problem

Thanks for the tip I haven't changed that file yet. I was hoping I could get my command line to work without altering the original file. I tried everything but the "-c $COLOR_FILE" flag is not recognized by the program. So I guess the only option left is to directly modify the "Deskto...

Is the "sudo" command available in some way under Irix 6.5?

Re: Uncomfortable Softimage|3D problem

OK. So it seems I have to directly modify the "original" color file. It's called Default.col. I'll make a backup.
I think SI didn't bother updating the available flags in 4.0.
Anyway still a great piece of software.

Thanks a lot

Uncomfortable Softimage|3D problem

Hi, Does anyone know how to change the menu colors (more exactly the pop up list color) in Softimage|3D 4.0? I'd like to go for grey instead of white. I changed colors in the "Preferences" menu and then saved the changes to a file called "Desktop.col" in my $HOME directory. To la...

Re: Nero ISO settings??

It also used to work for me "as is" but I modified some of the options and now I'm trying to set them back to their default values. The problem is that I can't remember which ones were changed and I only have a few blank CDs left so every try has to be carefully planned.

Nero ISO settings??

Hi, I'd like to burn an iso image on CD and then run it on Irix. I'm using Nero 8.2.3.1 and a CD-R. I'm confused with all the options (data mode, level...). Could someone tell me the exact settings? I'm using: Data mode: Mode 1 File system: ISO 9660 only File name length (ISO): Level 2 (maybe Level ...

GDM5411 - 13w3

Hi,

I'm about to buy a Sgi (Sony) GDM5411 monitor for my I2.
Does it have a 13w3 slot or only VGA (HD15)?

Thanks
