Everytime there is an Onyx available, it's always on the other side of the continent :( I agree Dodoid should get them. They'd have a happy home. :D

Re: Interesting Washington State Surplus Doo-Dads

Yeah. The SiCortex is missing a bunch of stuff. This is just the fabric router, and even that is missing parts. There should also be another rack that actually has the CPU blades. Pretty much useless. Good luck finding the stuff to actually make a SiCortex cluster.

Re: Which SGI box is your favorite and why?

I'd say the Indigo. That was my first SGI and main driver for many years. I think that really defined SGI. But, if I could have anything, I'd want an Onyx.

Tattoo

So it's my 35th birthday, and I'm getting a new tattoo for my birthday, and I want the SGI cube. If it weren't for SGI, I'd be a car mechanic. Probably not. But the alternate reality is stil pretty frightening. They inspired me to do computer work, and working for them for that brief time was my tas...

Re: With my SGI History Series complete, I have compiled all episodes for back-to-back viewing. Enjoy!

Rumor is SGI bought LNXI just for Bo. The tech was just an added bonus. Very smart guy with a great passion for HPC. Down to earth also. He had an office just like everyone else's - nothing fancy. But yeah, if you look at the Altix UV-1000, all the nodes are vertical, that was an LNXI thing and so i...

Great job! I was thrilled to see blip Linux Networx as I used to work there before they got acquired by SGI. Bo Ewald was a really great guy. I think he's at D-Wave now. Some of LNXI's technology actually made it into the Altix ICE systems. It was alot of fun. I still have a hang-over from being lai...

Re: IPv6!!!!

I have ATT and they provide native IPv6. A few tweaks to my Ubiquiti EdgeRouter, and voila...IPv6. IPv6 on IRIX has worked pretty flawlessly. I'm impressed.

Re: IPv6!!!!

That's impressive. Lessee 6.5.19 came out in 2003. I don't think Windows XP SP2 from 2004 had a complete IPv6 stack and I know Linux's was half-baked, and this seems to be pretty solid so SGI was certainly ahead of the curve.

Re: IPv6!!!!

Yeah. I've been really happy with 6.5.30. It has a few quirks, like all the PostScript stuff. But otherwise, it's been great.

IPv6!!!!

I have IPv6 setup on my network, and I set it up on my O2. I figured I'd have to fsck with it, but it Just Worked(tm). For being an older OS, it seems to have mature support for it. :D

Re: Installing Photoshop 3.0.1

Thanks to hamei, I got this solved. Turns out, the Illustrator installers that are out in the wild lack the DPS stuff. You need an actual Illustrator ISO with all the needed bits. Once you get it all installed it works like a charm under 6.5.30 (and for some reason Photoshop started working). This p...

Re: Installing Photoshop 3.0.1

Yeah, there are a couple forum posts. The problem is the Photoshop installer fails before it can install the DPS binaries :(
