Re: Your most prized hardware

All my SGIs, really. I just got an Octane 2, but it needs a new power supply (thank-you UPS), but when I get that going, I think that will be my most prized SGI.

When the weather outside is frightful, and the Cray is so delightful. Since we have nowhere to go. Let's simulate fluid flow, fluid flow, fluid flow :p

Re: Softimage Tutorial #1

Great tutorial! :D Nice and basic, which is what I need. I have a mental illness, and the medications have killed my creativity (which is kinda important if you're a graphics geek). I used to be very creative. So my psychiatrist wants me to do simple creative things to strengthen those creative neur...

Re: What kind of camera

This hasn't been a high priority. I've been doing other SGI-ish things. Plus I need a camera that can output to a supported format. I have my iPhone, and I could convert video files to MPEG or something, but that's kinda cheating.

Re: What kind of camera

I didn't realize Flame was an editor too. I may give that a try on my Octane when I get it.

Re: Anyone need a Z10 EC?

Mainframes pop up online every-so-often and they are super cheap. They are basically glorified pieces of art work without software licenses, since EVERYTHING in them has to be licensed to be used, and that costs an absorbent amount of money. Like the AS/400, they are basically useless without the li...

AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

For being an MIT project, it's not the most intuitive thing to get going and it's really only portable-ish. I had to modify a few things to get it to see some defines set in IRIX's standard library.

Re: Compiling Zephyr - At my wits end

YAY! :D I got it! Turns out it was was trying to link to the wrong libcom_err.so . It was trying to link to the one supplied by libss2 which does not work for some reason. Being able to step through what ld and gcc were doing helped.

Thanks for all your help, necron2000 <3

Re: Compiling Zephyr - At my wits end

So do I just put -lcom_err in my LDFLAGS?

I wasn't really thrilled about it compiling static libraries, but that's how the makefile does it, and makefiles are still a little bit foreign to me.

Compiling Zephyr - At my wits end

I'm trying to compile MIT's Zephyr IM platform, and it gives me the error message below. I've successfully compiled it's dependency, libss, which works fine (I think). I hate this error message because it doesn't tell you anything, and I've read the man page for SGI's linker with not clues how to tr...

But the good news is my C is improving and I'm learning the SGi standard library while porting software...so that's cool. :p

Re: Picked up O2+ on eBay.

The R12k is a bigger module. You need a different mainboard tray to accommodate it, and those are hard/expensive to find.

Hmm :( That's not ideal. But I saw some posts about that. What about using stunnel?
