Re: x11vnc woes

so i managed to solve it based on my CDE adventures in the past.. there's a line in /var/X11/xdm/xdm-config that needs to be edited thusly: #DisplayManager*grabServer: True DisplayManager*grabServer: False so if anyone is having similar problems, try this first. : ) also, don't forget to set -overla...

[SOLVED] x11vnc woes

hi all, so i'm trying to get x11vnc working. it sort of does already. when a user has already logged in via xdm (or its visuallogin variant thingy) locally, it works fine. even 3d rendering can be used - although as expected, it looks like crap. : ) a second xdm instance (display :1) also works fine...

Re: any XLV experts?

update: since then i have sorted out the plexing problem, but before that, for the hell of it, did a proper backup (i did use xfsdump) and 'converted' root back to a 'normal' fs. i have seen no negative side effects, aside from that the header stayed xlv instead of xfs. the system booted just fine. ...

any XLV experts?

hi everyone, tonight i thought it would be a nice idea to do a mirrored (plexed) root so if one of my SCSI disks die i could boot off of the other one. so, having experience in linux and solaris LVM solutions, i dug up some documentation on how to do this..: xlv_make> vol xlv_root xlv_root xlv_make>...

Re: octane2 PSU dead?

It is. When you plug it in, you'll hear a click from the Lucent power supply. I haven't heard it from the Cherokee one though. i distinctly remember hearing a soft click from my cherokee one when it was operational. as a matter of fact, i still hear it when the cord is plugged in, even though it se...

Re: octane2 PSU dead?

I assume 1 is unlikely. I use a PDU on my Octane and Octane2 (both using the newer PSU though) and when powering the cord, the PDU shows a max. current of 2.2 A at 230 V (the lights also flicker shortly) and "current" value for the current between 0 A and 0.4 A. And the machine is still o...

octane2 PSU dead?

hi everyone, some of you might have seen my earlier post on trying to obtain upgrades for my still new (well old-new) octane2. it's a cherokee sp360 . so today after bringing down the system for routine cable management stuff (crap tends to pile up in the server room), on re-connecting mains power a...

Re: looking for octane2 parts

well, I don't know about your application use, or what things are 'worth' to you, but it seems pretty reasonable to me given sgi hardware. I was just worried maybe you wanted to stick that in an early revision motherboard. ( in pairs even ) honestly, irix is so memory efficient that i really doubt ...

Re: looking for octane2 parts

Welcome to the club :D cheers man. : ) I am sure you can find the 13W3 / RAM easily enough via Ebay.. well, sort of. the adapter is no biggie, but have you seen the RAM prices? a 1GB PC133 module for ~100$ (plus shipping)?! the whole computer wasn't that expensive. not to mention that i got much be...

looking for octane2 parts

hi everyone, i recently became a proud owner of an octane2 with a V8 video card. not the best configuration, but it's in good shape and a friend sold it to me for a bargain price. i am fairly confortable with sun and IBM hardware and a ton of unices (i'm sort of an enthusiast), but this is the first...
