Re: Kernel Fault on SGI Octane

I get the same on boot up with an MXI board :( The dump confirms a fault occurs in Xsgi. I think I ran 'chkconfig savecore on' to enable that. Boots fine with a different graphics board... https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/5124298/30296723-0c81b5a4-973d-11e7-9277-1188a81014b6.png So it prob...

Kernel Fault on SGI Octane

Hi, I have an Octane system with an odd issue. Whenever I turn it on after not being used for a while, it greets me with this message after a while of starting up: PANIC: CPU 1: KERNEL FAULT PC: 0xa800000020336c68 ep: 0xffffffffffffbc48 EXC code: 128, 'Software detected SEGV ' Bad addr: 0x3e8, cause...

Yeah, I really love the design of the Octane. A lot of work was definitely put in to the design. It's probably the coolest machine I own.

Thanks! :P
I'm trying to think of some fun stuff to do, I might try to install BSD on another drive soon or something.

Re: Irix netinstall

edit: this was just a simple case of sysctl -w net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range="2048 32767". Good catch. Best is to make it permanent in a file in /etc/sysctl.d/ or a line in /etc/sysctl.conf : root@nfs:~# cat /etc/sysctl.d/99-sgi-indy.conf # The firmware of the SGI Indy can only access TCP ...

Nice! Glad you finally got an Octane. A lot of the Nekoware package managers have some problems related to servers going down, but ehh, it works if you point it at the main Nekochan packages. It's slow though. Thanks! Yeah, it seems to be doing this: --2017-08-23 19:55:29-- http://nekochan.net/neko...

Aezora - first SGI machine (Octane, 2xR10K 250 MHz, 1 GB RAM, SE)

After replacing the system board, power supply, and frontplane as well as figuring out how to network install IRIX from a debian vm, I finally have a working Octane. hinv: Location: /hw/node PM20250MHZ Board: barcode HPG180 part 030-1286-002 rev C Location: /hw/node/xtalk/15 IP30 Board: barcode EAN5...

Re: Irix netinstall

Test that you can reach the tftp server is reachable by running a client on a working network station. Then you can rule out tftp server not running, tftp server path wrong, tftp server permission problem, and firewall. It wouldn't hurt to watch the syslog on the tftp server as you try. I see RRQ f...

Re: Irix netinstall

I'll check the behaviour of my Octane later and post if I can reproduce your problem. Thanks so much for testing it in such depth! Okay, I've gotten it to the point to when I execute boot -f bootp()192.168.0.8:/srv/tftp/3/stand/fx.64 (The reason it's 3 is because I have 1 and 2 as the Application d...

Re: Irix netinstall

I followed this tutorial: http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?t=16728942 but it doesn't seem to include setting up bootp. I've read other tutorials but I'm kind of at a loss. Obviously without a bootp server it won't boot on the octane. As the TFTP server's address and path to the binaries is ...

Irix netinstall

Hi, I've set up a bridged vbox vm running debian 9. I've configured it to serve the files, but I'm kind of confused on setting up bootp. Re: Octane kernel panic

If it does turn out to be GFX i highly recommend a VPro upgrade, but this clearly is a CPU error. I reseated the RAM after cleaning it a bit and it's at a login prompt now. Is there any way to reset this without another install or should I just get another drive and figure out how to network instal...

Re: Octane kernel panic

Okay, I reseated the CPUs after cleaning and it still has the same error. Could it also be RAM or software? It seems like network installing irix with a raspi is quite difficult. edit: according to this thread (this person has the same exact error): http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?t=14162 i...

Okay, I'll try that. I also can't boot into single user as there's a root password.

Octane kernel panic

So I've finally gotten my Octane to begin booting, but the kernel faults after a little bit of it trying to start up.
First it goes to this screen:

Then goes black and then to this screen:
