Re: Octane kernel panic

If it does turn out to be GFX i highly recommend a VPro upgrade, but this clearly is a CPU error. I reseated the RAM after cleaning it a bit and it's at a login prompt now. Is there any way to reset this without another install or should I just get another drive and figure out how to network instal...

Re: Octane kernel panic

Okay, I reseated the CPUs after cleaning and it still has the same error. Could it also be RAM or software? It seems like network installing irix with a raspi is quite difficult. edit: according to this thread (this person has the same exact error): http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?t=14162 i...

Okay, I'll try that. I also can't boot into single user as there's a root password.

Octane kernel panic

So I've finally gotten my Octane to begin booting, but the kernel faults after a little bit of it trying to start up.
First it goes to this screen:

Then goes black and then to this screen:

Re: New octane does nothing

Okay, with the new board only the QB and QC lights come on when I plug the power in and the power button doesn't affect it in any way. Is the xbow messed up or what? This machine has been quite problematic, lol. edit: btw, nothing over serial. edit 2: okay, so I tried setting it to the password rese...

Re: New octane does nothing

Yeah, minicom was set up for /dev/ttyS0 9600 8N1. Okay, well that's right then. Just for funzies did you try it with both serial ports on both your Octane and your Linux box? We're grabbing at straws at this point. According to the Octane Owner's Guide the next step is to replace the system module....

Re: New octane does nothing

You may have done this already so please excuse me if you have. When you re-seated the memory did you actually take out the modules and plug them back in again? If so, were they installed in the same order? If not, you may want to reorganize the modules in different slots. Work with a minimum memor...

Re: New octane does nothing

Would you please measure the output from power supply, no matter what kind or brand, they should supply the same voltage for 5, 12. Etc. When I had trouble of Indigo, I suffered similar struggle until I found the power supply would move out from the 24 pins socket whenever I pluged the powercord in...

Though I fear your machine is becoming the Oak Island of Octane restoration projects, there is still an 030-0887-005/B system module on Ebay for a measly 75 smackers...

I might get it, thanks.

Re: New octane does nothing

I just put a paperclip in pin 2 on one end and pin 3 on the other and it did work, pin 2 in one and pin 2 on the other and nothing... so it is a null modem cable. I guess the machine is just toast! That seems a reasonable conclusion, but the fact that the XIO indicator leds come up correctly would ...

Re: New octane does nothing

What Colour are the skins on your Octane, Green or Blue? [Edit] I think it's green by the looks in the video. You sort of want to be careful about how much money this absorbs from you. Since you have come this far though, you may as well go for a MB. So I should just go for that board? Alright. Tha...

Re: New octane does nothing

I have a 1.3 XBOW I can sell for cheap, as I said. But I think you may have a bad MB here. Or bad RAM . I dunno. Thank you. :) I tried a different set of RAM. I think it might be a bad mainboard, it seems like the most likely thing to me (but I have no experience with these machines so I don't know...

Re: New octane does nothing

Seems we have run out of options, but is it the XBO or the MB? Shame, you don't live close old chap, I have plenty of stuff to test. It's a shame. Maybe I should just get a board like this one and try it like vishnu suggested? Doesn't state its worked or working? As a thought, have you cleaned the ...
