Re: SGI Power Supply Tester (and other projects)

1.5 x 2 inches :) Power is from the Indigo (or Onyx, etc.) connection, via a LTM 8021 single module buck converter. Much less heat and loss vs. the linear regulator in the existing PIC based PS/2 adapter. The microprocessor is a SiLabs EFM8 Busy Bee , a modern 8051 derivative. It seemed appropriate ...

Re: SGI Power Supply Tester (and other projects)

I am probably getting ahead of myself since I haven't finalized the bigger keyboard adapter, but here is one to replace the old PS/2 to Indigo functionality as a much smaller, cheaper board (compared to the USB adapter): https://gainos.org/~elf/images/hotlink-ok/20170810-ps2-sgi/20170810-ps2-sgi-pcb...

Ah, good catch. Thank you! I will correct it on future boards (I have to make more).

Re: SGI Power Supply Tester

So it has been a while, and I have been paying attention to a lot of other projects as well, but I put together a tested, working revision 3 of the load board PCB this weekend. Each board is now produced identically (for both positive and negative rails), and is configured for the voltage afterwards...

Ah, depends what sort and what quality. Higher temperature higher capacity electrolytics, tantalum polymer, etc. can get more expensive if you look for the good ones. $1-2/ea. and it adds up when buying 20-50 of them.

Re: If you must use Windows 10 and default apps is driving you crazy...

I gave Windows 10 a shake and was disappointed, of course. I am in the process of installing my Windows based development tools into Win7 VMs, however I recently found Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB. It may be a way to make Windows 10 more tolerable, if you have to use it: Enterprise LTSB is a long-term...

Re: Octane 2 Hardware schematics and assembly drawings sought I a Searching for Octane2 Hardware schematicsandassembly

That's why I've made backup copies of them. That includes GE boards of GTX or VGX graphics. I already had an EPROM burner, the other day I received an UV eraser as well :) Thank you :) You say ~20 yr lifetime from when written, I say the apparently-dead-node has pumped a lot of oil in its life. The...

Re: Octane 2 Hardware schematics and assembly drawings sought I a Searching for Octane2 Hardware schematicsandassembly

What I am starting to worry about with the age of the SGI gear are things like PROMs decaying, whether single (E)PROM chips or inside other things like PLDs. Supposedly they have a ~20 yr lifetime from when written.

Re: Whats it like living in japan?

It's very hard to obtain citizenship in Japan, I've done research and it's very stringent. I plan to obtain citizenship in another country first before as the US citizenship makes it expensive and financially inviable to live and work overseas, since you have to pay taxes to both governments. Sort ...

Re: SGI Power Supply Tester

This is great, and this is what I would want in THE ultimate adaptor.. Just my needs really and I do have many adaptors, but these have eluded me. Thanks! :) SUN (Type 6 below? None USB & Keyboard and Mouse in one) IN --TO-- PS/2 / USB OUT. The SUN keyboard 5/6 is a really neat keyboard, if a l...

Re: SGI Power Supply Tester

Interesting! Does this transform a USB keyboard to a PS/2, Sun, SGI style keyboard plus PS/2 mouse? Would be really useful. Will this also work with an Indigo (1)? Yes, and yes :) USB Keyboard & Mouse to PS/2, the old async serial SGI keyboard (Indigo, 4D, Crimson, Onyx), and Sun Type 5. Since ...

Well, finally recovering (financially) from getting the van fixed, so I will be back to this soon.
