Re: Marktplaats, not mine, Two SGI O2's

Bruker often sold nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instruments with O2s as instrument controllers. While most sites migrated to other controller platforms around a decade ago, quite a few of these O2s remain in service around the world. A very reliable configuration! One of the O2's I inherited cam...

Re: 3D Print Octane front door?

I will make these on my printer when I have the time. Curious what printer you have and you might approach just getting the door printed. Either with your own printer or sending it to a commercial service. I have a Makerbot Replicactor 2 at my place of work that I have learned to use quite extensiv...

Re: 3D Print Octane front door?

If you open the .iv on a SGI in Inventor Viewer it definitely has the front cover shape, but I don't think the door and cover are separate. I didn't check if there were referenced textures in the .iv and obviously didn't bother to upload any. With minimal trickery the demo can be loaded if you have...

Re: 3D Print Octane front door?

I printed the Logo and use it in my videos. This model is also available on Thingiverse, probably converted from the same place. True, but I haven't seen any with the actual lettering up on Thingiverse. Not that it really matters. I tried printing this, but I'm not sure makerware could make sense o...

Re: 3D Print Octane front door?

Managed to get this converted to an .stl a bit more useful for 3D printing. Managed to do this with someone's old c++ code here: http://people.sc.fsu.edu/~jburkardt/cpp_src/ivcon/ivcon.html However, this appears to just be the SGI logo =/ Maybe japes can clarify on that. This is what I got when impo...

Re: Two PSU failures over a weekend.

I also have two bad Octane PSU's that had failed before I inherited my collection from the work place. One does the exact same thing as yours, it clicks when you plug it into mains, but won't power on the machine after that. I've opened it up, to see if it's anything obvious but nothing visually sta...

Re: Onyx2 Deskside, 4x400MHz R12K, IR3, 8GB RAM

Sounds similar to the struggles I've been going through with my two Origin2k's. I got one of them all set, working clean as a whistle, only to have the hard drive fail on me one day when I went to power it on. Not the exact same problem, but just another headache. Consider me forever envious of your...

Re: Netgear GA620T Branded Gigabit card.

Happy to report I got this working in one of my Octanes. They are just Netgear branded AceNIC cards. So in this case, the vendor ID and device ID reported by hinv -vm is 0x1385 0x630a respectively. This lines up with what's on Linux kernel driver database page for the card here: https://cateee.net/l...

Netgear GA620T Branded Gigabit card.

Forgive me if this information is more straightforward elsewhere. I am a complete n00b about dealing with non SGI branded hardware. I've got two of these gigabit ethernet cards pictured here: http://i.imgur.com/h9hZwje.jpg http://i.imgur.com/k5VTb6H.jpg They look very similar the card posted here in...

Now try hauling an Origin 2000 deskside in a Mark 4 Jetta :D Wait a second, please tell me about this. I had a mk4 Jetta and I brought home a Origin 2000 deskside in the B7 Audi A4 that I replaced the Jetta with. There was a small tear on the C pillar trim because my helper wasn't patient enough du...

Re: HP(e) buys SGI for US$275MM

I only use my newer computers when I have to (for work sometimes), or to browse the Internet. All my music, my photography, my videos, my writing - all is done in older computers, with simpler software. </rant> I have had the same realization, when it comes to creative works or even general Office ...

Great vid! You have improved your speech. I am sure with more practice you'll get the hang of narrating videos. :)
