Did the machine originally came with the installed Crucial memory and/or could the seller confirm that it worked like that?

Challenge accepted. Added results for a Power Mac G5 type 7,3 with two slightly faster PPC970FX running at 2.3 GHz and newer Linux kernel and OS parts. Now also includes results for STREAM using this OpenMP version of STREAM : root@powermac-g5-2:~# uname -a Linux powermac-g5-2 4.15.0-2-powerpc64 #1...

Re: Talos Secure Workstation

I settled on a Librebooted KGPE-D16 with two 16-core Opteron 6282SEs. Interestingly, Coreboot/Libreboot support for the KGPE-D16 was implemented by Raptor Engineering, before either of the TALOS projects. This machine should run Qubes with my Qubreboot script , and firmware-wise it ticks the "...

Re: Talos Secure Workstation

Btw, where the fark did this Twitter embed thing come from? It's obnoxious. Even moreso when it doesn't work at all if you don't have twitter.com enabled in your Javascript whitelist. Which would restore the intended behaviour. I just posted an URL and would have liked to just see the URL. I assume...

Maybe off topic, but what recent ARM workstations are they referring to? Are there any? I only know of ARM servers, e.g. with Cavium ThunderX2 processors etc..

Re: Efficiency - PowerPC G4 vs. G5

Yesterday eve I was super bored, and decided to force my G5 Quad on two cores only (both cores on the same CPU) and reduced performance mode and benchmark it against the G4 dual 1.25. Even though we all know the G4s are more efficient, some numbers still surprised me. Interesting, I didn't anticipa...

Re: your latest purchase

I haven't actually been able to figure out how to open the case on mine yet . So I'm not sure what the internal differences are. On obsolyte.com check the picture below "SS10 Rear Ports". The top machine is an Axil 311. You need to loosen the big slotted screws on left and right top...

Re: your latest purchase

Just got an Axil 311 (excuse the bad picture) I also got one years ago. Actually a rare sight on Ebay. The eBay auction said it was actually a 320 in a 311 case. Spoilers: I don't think it is. The boot banner in the boot PROM says its a 311, and it has a 40MHz SuperSPARC. I'm pretty sure the 320 is...

[...] I finally found this: a 2003 PT Cruiser GT Limited Edition with 46,000 miles. [...] The retired couple who owned it kept it in near-new condition and it's got some upmarket amenities like leather, heated seats, turbo, sunroof, etc. Never thought I'd actually own one of these oddball vehicles ...

Re: What pointless thing are you doing right now?

See attached for the benchmark binaries, source code and all results – there are about 160 result files from many common platforms - x86/DOS, MIPS/IRIX, PA-RISC/HP-UX, Itanium/HP-UX, 68k/amiga, ARM/WinCE, SH3/WinCE and multiple CPU architectures running Linux. Thanks a lot. I may add a few results ...

That's interesting! Is that benchmark freely available for use and do you have a results page for your tested machines?
