Re: Apple to stop using Intel processors in Macs, reports say

At this point, I don't care that much, but it would be lovely to see some serious investment in non x86/amd64 end-user facing workstations and laptops. I do agree a bit with that, but the real issue with this is that they may go more towards iOS instead of OSX. they want a closed ecosystem, just li...

Re: Apple to stop using Intel processors in Macs, reports say

heard stories about how difficult it actually was for professional software on OSX, the entire idea of switching to a new architecture should seem insane. the extra cost of buying the same software yet again for a new architecture makes approximately zero sense times have changed. think of how many...

Re: Apple to stop using Intel processors in Macs, reports say

well ms and qualcomm have been working on a server-level ARM chip https://www.qualcomm.com/products/qualcomm-centriq-2400-processor and this register editorial from today points out that apple's ARM chips are superior for single core tasks but inferior to intel on anything multi-core, which is kind ...

Re: Graphics Card for Digital Personal Workstation

May as well, PCI 7500s aren't nearly as common since by the time the 7500 came out AGP was the standard. I paid about $35 for my pci 7500 though.

Re: Video Card for Digital Personal Workstation

Traditionally the ATI 7500 PCI card was the one to get, but it has to have DEC specific firmware on it. They used to come up on eBay now and again and resellers have them but they're not cheap. I have one of here - if you are interested in buying one contact me via PM. Regards, Mark. I don't know a...

Re: Anyone have any idea where I could find a CD-ROM drive like this?

That could work, do you specifically need it for CDs? I avoided the problem of burning things to transfer over (drivers, software) by getting a Syquest parallel port ezflyer 230mb cartridge drive, which I think was about $30 fully boxed with driver disk and manuals.

Re: Anyone have any idea where I could find a CD-ROM drive like this?

Oh hey, I think I have the same model thinkpad. Unfortunately that's a big ask, afaik that drive is so weird and antiquated that it can't even read 700mb CD-Rs, only 650s, I think it was built down to a price. Great thinkpad though, I've got one running win3.11 with a PCMCIA ethernet card and a game...

Is anyone interested in this? I picked it up out of curiosity and ripped an iso of it, figuring it'd be useful to have around for messing about with hercules. you'd need this to read any of the .boo files, I've only just started delving into it. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24001...

Was that possibly phased out around the time that apple killed off homepage.mac.com?

Can't go wrong with the D630, I've had a few and theyre pretty solid. A dell C600 will also work if you want something older that will run win98/dos.

Re: What HP/DEC/Compaq do we have.

Picked up a VAXStation 4000 VLC from a recycler who knew they were valuable. I paid him $50 for it as we couldn't test it. It looks decent enough. Needs a new Dallas chip and probably some other work. Was it the guy in DC with the huge warehouse? He's on ebay under the seller name efi. I've got two...
