So I should use the EV56 optimized version on my EV67?

Re: Alphaserver DS15

The initial setup doesn't seem to like letting you install more than the base system and utilities but that's enough to run updates and it's now pulling down MATE and synaptic, it's fairly up-to-date in terms of automating the setup other than the initial install. Certainly more friendly than Gentoo...

Re: Alphaserver DS15

Well, there was a little bit of confusion reinterpreting the instructions for PA Risc to AXP but I've got a basic console installed and it's currently updating, I'll probably fire it off to install more than the basics tonight.

Re: Alphaserver DS15

Where should I point it to download the packages to install? Everything I can find is either offline or just a link to the netboot image.

Re: Alphaserver DS15

I'll give it a shot, I actually only went with the lenny ISO because I wanted to test if the system would boot from a cd ISO burned to a dvd, since it's an old compaq ide dvd drive i've been using for a while and i've got a stack of dvd-rs and little reason to bother buying more cd-rs (tough to find...

Re: Looking for good software For PPC macs

AROS is another way of getting a modern and properly free/OSS amiga OS, the icAROS-live distribution is fairly stable on any old x86 machine. the problem you'd run into running software from an amiga floppy on a post-floppy-drive PC like a mac is that USB floppy drives aren't built to handle anythin...

Re: Alphaserver DS15

Update on my DS10L: I bought a 4 port PCI bridge card from a standard DS10 workstation. :!: DO NOT DO THIS. :!: A capacitor almost immediately turned red hot and exploded with no PCI cards installed, so apparently there is some difference between the DS10L motherboard and the DS10/XP900 motherboard....

Re: SGI Espressigo

Out of curiosity, what plug standard do you use in SA? Looks a bit like a UK-style 220v which might put some people off because running an espresso machine off of a voltage converter might be difficult due to load.

Re: Looking for good software For PPC macs

http://www.morphos.de/ It's an AmigaOS clone which will only run on certain models of ppc mac, including ibook g4. It should be extremely snappy, there's a trial ISO on the site but it is a paid-license OS unfortunately. There's a sizeable amount of ported software and it will run any older amiga so...

Re: SSL deactivated in Seamonkey 1.1-12 VMS

I set up a test account to see if it was actually a system issue and it doesn't throw the errors. Not really sure how that happens, but I'll chalk it up to some gremlins I guess and just use the new one with operator privileges

Re: SSL deactivated in Seamonkey 1.1-12 VMS

I've also noticed this error message in the terminal window that starts CSWB: LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /sys$common/cswb/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so [OpenVMS status is decimal 540

Would reinstalling CSWB potentially fix these issues?

Re: SSL deactivated in Seamonkey 1.1-12 VMS

Right, but is that because SSL3 got turned off, or because the library isn't loading? It may not be possible to tell from the client. However, I *think* that version should have TLS 1.0 capability. I'm not sure from the client, because of these two messages: Could not initialize the browser's secur...

Re: How can Apple reclaim its dominance over PC-based workstations?

. Also, given the lack of sales, we were probably right on this one. I think that, perhaps, solidifies my point; Apple is not moved by sales, but rather margins. If the new mac pros have lower sales, but the profit margins generate more profit, that's the lesson that Apple gets out of the exercise....
