Re: Alphaserver DS15

Well, after spending most of the last week banging my head against the gentoo wall, where between the horribly unclear install guide and the apparent inability for the thing to both format a simple working file system AND build a kernel without inexplicably ****ting the bed, I'm going to do a fresh ...

Re: Digital Unix Alpha Software Product Library - download now!

No need to a get a cdr recorder! I built the iso images with Joliet and Rock Ridge support so the images can be directly mounted by a Windows 10 machine. Simply using readily available software you can tar and gzip a directory of interest to you and the ftp the result to your tru64 machine. that's ...

Re: looking for C++ compiler version 6.5 or 7.1

nobody has any problem with sharing any software for VMS or Tru64/DUnix, because you still need a license for it and tbh it's much easier to run a free version of BSD or linux on any of the old hardware, unless you're a real hardcore retrocomputing enthusiast. the type equivalent to the idiots who w...

Re: looking for C++ compiler version 6.5 or 7.1

Any CD burning program on any operating system should be capable of creating an ISO image, brasero on linux is what I use if i need it. Nero was what i used when I still had a windows-based computer with an optical drive. (Kept the optical drive on the linux machine because I have a version of Civ:C...

Re: looking for C++ compiler version 6.5 or 7.1

oh my god if you have that set... i know we can't talk about sharing anything here, but just to have some of that old dead abandonware available there are places online that would be happy to host it. when it comes to the newer compilers, have you checked any of the various sites now hosting ISOs of...

Re: looking for C++ compiler version 6.5 or 7.1

There's a version of GCC for Tru-64 but it is woefully out of date and hasn't been maintained for years. I think a newer version of this was cobbled together and is actually in a repository on nekochan but I can't find it immediately so check this for some readymade 3.4.6 binaries: http://wickensonl...

Re: Resizing AdvFS partitions on Tru64

I need to delve into the shell to find the actual tools. for system stuff always and on every os. and even if the gui stuff would support what you wanna do, the terminal always is the prefered way. Of course, unfortunately the sysadmin book only gives a glancing look at the CDE administrative tools...

Re: Resizing AdvFS partitions on Tru64

AdvFS uses "domains", which are made up of multiple partitions. I don't have time to read the docs but it should be possible to create additional partitions and add them to the existing domain to increase the available space. Right, and there should be plenty of free space left, but the t...

Resizing AdvFS partitions on Tru64

I have a Tru64 5.1 install on a 120GB drive set up using AdvFS, unfortunately when installing it the Tru64 partitioning tool attempted to force the filesystem to fit a 4.3gb drive. I forced it to take on most of the apparently randomly partitioned-but-ignored space as a combined /usr and /var partit...

Re: Alphaserver DS15

Haha congrats on getting it working but doesnt the 5430 have 1GB onboard ram? i.e. your graphics card has as much ram as the computer that's using it I've gotten my DS10L running with 1.5GB ram, but I have to have the lid up due to the low profile case not providing enough space to have ram directl...

Re: PowerPC Macs - Are They Still Useful?

iBook G3 800mhz makes probably the most powerful and compact OS 9 machine out there. I keep one around for running classic programs, since they're all abandonware now and that includes a lot of games and media apps that work perfectly well. Same reason i keep an old dell c600 around to run win98.

Re: What HP/DEC/Compaq do we have.

It appears that both are stacked, including the one labeled 20-01ESA-08. They're otherwise identical aside from the labels. As I said, they're refurbished and seem to be a matched set of pulls labeled by HP as Refurbished, entirely possible they're mislabeled.

Re: What HP/DEC/Compaq do we have.

The 20-00DSA-08 sticks are the full 512MB each, the system now has 1024MB ram. If anyone needs to pick up a set of 512MB for a DS10 compatible alphaserver, shoot me a PM and we can work something out, since I now have a matched pair and a third 256MB stick that I don't need. Just to be sure: Did yo...
