Re: QNX+X11

X11 terminals are a thing of the nineties, when workstations were an expensive resource that had to be shared. X11 terminals are still good when you have to leave them far from your eyes in public space, where everybody can put his/her hands on, and you want to be sure that nobody can do strange th...

For a maximum of 3 machines or do you want to expand later on? Need to embed it inside a rack, no expansion planned, but possible, up to 8 units, and no more than 8 units. 200 EUR Yup, that's the point! I could design my own PCB with OrCad and ask a Chinese Service to make it, and then assemble the...

QNX+X11

QNX is an interesting ucKernel, different from linux in many aspects, including the fact that it's not open-source and you need to complete a legal procedure before you can gain access to QNX source code. More specifically (as I have already tried to do, I have been explained that -> ) you need to c...

Re: which was the best X11(R4)-terminal?

IBM 8361-110, Network Station Series 300, seems interesting.
it's based on PowerPC4xx.

Never tried. Any feedback?

On PseudoColor Xterminals, Cairo still doesn't work

Cairo is a 2D graphics library with support for multiple output devices. Currently supported output targets include the X Window System (via both Xlib and XCB), quartz, win32, and image buffers, as well as PDF, PostScript, and SVG file output. Experimental backends include OpenGL, BeOS, OS/2, and D...

Re: nirvana editor (aka nedit) crashes

There is also a big problem with Cairo (used by gtk, so it's a problem for gedit): it doesn't support pseudo-colors, and colors screws up, sometimes applications also crash and crack up into a core dump. - - - - - All of these dumps of garbage are clearly a symptom of shitty code: why doesn't applic...

Re: nirvana editor (aka nedit) crashes

In the meanwhile I am trying to develop a simpler text editor for Motif, which can be used on HPPA through an X11-terminal. Nedit is too complex. Current status 90% completed. I have also put Nedit-v5.1.1 back to the overlay, compiled and installed, it works (= it doesn't crash) but 1) it's slow to ...

geany-like on OpenMotif?

So, Geany is a beautiful and very productive IDE, mainly supporting C,C++ files, but it also supports many file-types, and has some nice features. It massively uses the GTK+ toolkit with a few dependencies from other packages (VTE?). The problem I have is: modern GTK+ libraries don't support pseudoc...

Re: which was the best X11(R4)-terminal?

A big problem comes if the Xterm doesn't support TrueColor. Both Tektronix and HP are PseudoColor. It seems it's caused by cairo, and every gtk* application is affected. I don't know if there is a trick to fix it, I know applications like gtkwave, geany, gedit, ... are not properly working, and they...

Re: A Guide on Your Options for non-x86 Computers (2017)

95% of everything that people do in "office suites" can be done satisfactorily in a good text editor. bah ... you can you write your thesis in latek using VIM/Emacs/Nano/NE/Joe/notepad ... and you get a good job done. I personally did it when I was a student. What about Excel? PowerPoint?...
