Re: Introducing D1

There has been a ton of software-side development since the last posts, hardware hasn't moved a ton (some new testing stuff, should help things move faster). Working on D1 as we speak, in fact. Might see a big push soon, if not, summer holidays begins for me in around a month, so I have no excuse no...

Minor homepage change: "Other Sites" link added. If you want your site in there, let me know and I'll add it.

Re: Announcing The IRIX Network

I've been doing some work on the irix.cc wiki lately, but today, my work was the new homepage! Check it out, and hit the "another SGI" button a few times (this is by far my favorite feature I've ever implemented in a website). Enjoy!

Re: What helps you to fall asleep?

I mean, it's not there any more (moved downstairs to be on a different subnet that I don't have upstairs and to do some D1 testing), but up until a few months ago... :D

Re: your latest purchase

New calculator running ucPython. Looking at the firmware for that. Exam Mode is amusing to me. What's to stop a clever student from just modding the firmware to fake Exam Mode being enabled, then having a hidden option (say, konami code on the about screen) to disable it from the device? Or just hi...

Re: Dodoid Mini Indigo is now on sale!

Neat! Now I feel like I need to redesign the Mini Indigo... Ah well, D1 is the main project right now. Perhaps after. In the interests of mitigating the Osborne effect, this won't be for a good long while. I have other possible post-D1 projects lined up, and the Mini Indigo or whatever I choose to w...

Not taking the graphics for it as well? The boards you bought don't seem to have any kind of graphics capability, it looks like it's on the boards in the other listing.

Re: eBay: VME V30/35 Boards

Thanks guys! I didn't even know they made earlier systems in VME variants. I updated the title and original post to say this. I was just looking through Bitsavers, hadn't seen that particular manual but there's quite a lot of other good stuff there as well.

eBay: VME V30/35 Boards

Replies have confirmed what this thing is. Original title was "VME Indigo?", however this is clearly not the case. I don't really know what this thing is, but a seller is selling two SGI-made boardsets that look like they're for VME. Is this the V50 VME Indigo mentioned by SGIStuff? "...

Re: doomed - use! HTTPS Everywhere - google explained why

I'm not going to step into the political stuff here (though all your opinions are interesting and I am definitely following the thread closely). I do want to pop in for a moment to back Ian up with regards to YouTube. I really only have one rule for myself with regards to my content: no politics or ...

Re: doomed - use! HTTPS Everywhere - google explained why

What do you think the embeddable like button is for? Haven't seen them in years. What do you think adblockers are for? ;) Well, I suspect most of us here are running adblockers. I run UBO, in addition to Privacy Badger, Disconnect, and Decentraleyes, plus some browser tweaks and usually Waterfox, b...

They then proceeded to run off any and every non-commercial use they could. They've been very effective at that. The fact that we are all currently on the world-wide-web, chatting about the world-wide-web for no financial gain of our own, on a site with no advertisements, run by donations to the op...

Re: doomed - use! HTTPS Everywhere - google explained why

HTTPS also comes in handy in places where you are connected over an open wireless network. While, of course, the best option here is a secure wireless network, it is far too frequent for WiFi networks to be left open in public places just because giving everyone a password is too much of a hassle. W...

Re: your latest purchase

I mean, I don't think it's right to send a different board revision, but if it's still a 300mhz board with the same specs, I wouldn't be too worried. Chances are he has a couple of 300mhz boards in stock, and has a photo of one of them that he uses whenever he sells one. The differences you have des...
